That sucks! Glad he's OK, at least from the sounds of it.

Mike is okay. He has a broken ankle. We were headed east on Hwy 52 just outside of Portsmouth, OH. He was going about 55 and traveling behind me. Todd and I both noticed at the same time that we didn't see his headlight anymore. Stopped, waited and saw a few cars go by but not Mike. Headed back west and sure enough, cars pulled over and a deer laying in the road. Mike was on the side of the road, in good spirits. He bike went ahead of him, caught and sign and flipped a few times before it stopped at the bottom of the shoulder. It was towed into Portsmouth. He's been discharged and should be headed here to the hotel anytime. Will get a rental car to drive back to NC. Thank God he's okay!!

Just got to the hotel in Portsmouth Ohio. We were able to find rooms locally and Mike just called from the hospital to say he is on his way over via cab. His ankle is broken, some minor road rash on his right arm, a few bruises, but otherwise Mike is physically OK. We had stopped by the hosptal and he was waiting for the xray results, so we went to find rooms.

The plan is that he is going to try to rent a car in the morning and drive home. The bike is here and his insurance co. will inspect here in Ohiio. I am going to try to go back to the sceen first thing in the morning and see if there is any other stuff that we missed picking up in the dark.

Hind site, I wish we had not decided to ride at night......we were about 45 minutes from our planned stop when the accident happened. We decided to stop and eat about 2 hrs out and had been going down hwy52 for about an hour between 50 and 55mph ..... there was a pick up behind us. All of a sudden, Mike and the pickup was gone so we turned around and went back pretty quick. The guy in the pickup had already called for help and said the deer jumped out right in front of Mike. We were just happy Mike seemed to be OK other than his ankle...the bike and/or parts can be replaced.

More in the morning, but Mike is in good spirits right now and said if he could ride it, he would get right back on and head home tomorrow.

Those that met him this last week in Custer know he is a great individual with spirit second to none.

Sorry to hear about the mishap, but at least it sounds like he's ok for the most part.
