If I go.....

Hi
I am booked at the Maggie Valley Inn
I've posted a couple of threads asking to hear from members "out west", that might be going to Maggie Valley for the National next summer. It appears some members are focusing on the "Rally In the Redwoods" in August and probably can't spare the time for both.....I know it's early for some to commit, but I'm going to start to plan just which way to travel. Is there anyone I might be able to hook up with along the way?

Rickyboy, I am tad too far south for your purposes. However, looks like you would route through the Black Hills in South Dakota either going or on the return trip. You might consider laying over for a couple of days, there are several things to see and some nice riding. Mt. Rushmore, Custer State Park, and other sites of interest.

A lot of great sights to see on a ride from your location to Maggie Valley. You have time to map out your route. What a ride you have coming up. I almost wish it were me having that ride ahead of me.

Sure Gene,... I'll meet you somewhere and we can ride into Maggie Valley together.

Mark you're right when you say "there are several things to see and some nice riding. Mt. Rushmore, Custer State Park, and other sites of interest. " I was there for the last National rally in Custer. No I probably didn't see it all and I'll be seeing things along the way through there. I'm just looking to find someone to join me that's going to the rally. There has to be someone going that's from west or north/central US of A.
Probably take 4 days to comfortably ride to Chandler wouldn't it Scott? Then how long to get to Maggie Valley? Or maybe I can meet you somewhere along the way. I'm just think'in is all.

If I go.....

I figure 4 days from my house in Chandler to Maggie Valley, which is roughly 4 500 mile days. I plan to follow I-20 (more or less) across Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama, then take I-59 north to Chattanooga.

My return trip will follow I-40 until New Mexico, where I plan to follow US 60 back home.

Google maps says Vancouver BC is roughly 1600 miles from where I live.

Ricky, I thought I saw a post that a fellow from NW Iowa was coming? Either that or he was talking about going to the one out west? You might check with him, think his ID is usranger74

Scott - your map is going to fill in with that ride - that's good.

If I go.....

I was stationed in Millington, TN 33 years ago. I have not been back to TN since. I have a little sightseeing I want to do on my way home.

If nothing else materializes, perhaps you could hook up with Greg and the North Central contingent that will be heading south out of Illinois. Just an option.

Ricky... you would be more than welcome to hook-up with some of us that are heading down.

We haven't nailed-down all the details of the exact route or where we'll be at on specific days... but we are trying to head-out from North-Central Illinois early Saturday morning the 10th with a stop-over around Columbus, Indiana on Sat night; then making the rest of the ride to MV on Sunday to arrive a day early.

Hopefully BiscuitsNgravy (Dave; NCR Leader) will make it with us. He lives in the north-central region of Iowa, and would have to come across Illinois on his way to MV. That might give you someone to hook-up with for that portion prior to meeting-up with the rest of us (If he goes.)

So far, we could have a posse of around 5-8 bikes heading down together. I am trying to get more if possible. Once we get to the Southern end of Indiana, the riding starts to "get good"!

Not exactly sure from what direction you'll be coming from (or can come from); but as I said... would love to hook-up with you if possible. ;)

Thanks Greg, I will definitely keep this offer in mind. Keep me posted on any plans as they come up. I am thinking of traveling to AZ and possibly making the trip with Scott, if he'll have me along. ::) I just checked an old thread and it sounds like Scott would welcome me along with him. That route would take me to some areas I've wanted to see. But the same goes for seeing Illinois and Indiana though.

No problem.

The southern route would be more scenic... for certain. ;)

Hey Ricky, you can hook up with the FL contingent and ride up with us. That way, you can color in your entire SE map and then some ;)
