More Power?

It's a friday night, so I thought I'd ask a question bound to get a few answers....

What's the best way to add more power (guts) to the bike?
I'm running K&N air filter,
and recently added the TFI control.

Otherwise the bike si stock, including pipes.
I'd like a bit more juice out of it - the harley's I was riding with last weekend were leaving me in the dust when we were up over 65mph.

Thoughts on the most effect and ideally simple mods to help?
I'd like to keep the bike fairly stock.

Thanks
Brian

Get a set of aftermarket pipes and open up the right side breather. Chuckster, a KawaNOW member designed and builds the single backing plate to use an auto style air filter or a double plate on which you can mount the 7" K & N filter and use the stock dog bowl cover. The pipes and breather mod will get you a few more horses along with your TFI. I have the pipes and TFI but haven't done the breather mod yet.

Mitch is correctomundo. Pipes, fuel and air is what you need to wake these things up. I can keep up with Harleys.

I don't understand why a Harley or any other bike except for a crotch rocket would leave you in the dust at speeds over 65. Even in fifth gear from 60 to 90 for me is a simple matter. I have no problem with getting to speeds higher than I want to be riding. My Nomad is stock with debaffled pipes and the Cobra FI2000R being the only thing I have done to it.

Maybe so Brad. I just don't have any problem with mine going from 60 or 65 to 90 as fast or faster than I need for it to. And it will cruise at 80 or 90 if I want to ride at those speeds. If you are riding faster than that then I won't be riding with you.

It took me a long time to get use to the idea that the Nomad is a cruiser not a racer. I know what you mean about more power but with the Nomad air, fuel and pipes is about all you can do. I think Mac said in a post several months ago that the Nomad is the Freightliner of the touring bikes and I agree. Made for long haul riding and it will never be a speed demon. The air, fuel, pipes mod will wake it up some but do not expect the kind of power some other bikes get from similar mods. For what it is I belive the Nomad is one of the best bikes out there when you consider styling and overall performance. It's when we start tring to make it something that it is not that the troubles start.

Let the Harleys race on ahead of you and smile when you go by as they get their speeding ticket. My Nomads fast enough for me. If I wanted to go faster I would buy a Wing or a Venture.

Most every HD rider I've seen are brave on a straight road. Try kicking down a gear, if the speed is appropriate. My last bike was a V65 Magna, had it for many years. When I bought my Nomad it was enlightening, I had the same torque as the Magna but no topend. Just go out by yourself and experiment and I think you will find you can stay with the others.

I use the 7" K&N filter with the stock backing plate on my 2002, and it fits pretty good if you put the filter on straight.
I find our bikes pretty slow at top end compared to others I have owned, but I have no problem keeping up with any of my pals on there Ultras.

I believe it was in 2001 that Cruiser Mag. did a comparo out in the desert between a Fi Nomad and a carb Nomad with a turbo from Mr. Turbo. The turbo produced about 85 horse power to the rear wheel. The drawback was the price, somewhere around $4000.00. Its been awhile so I don't remember everything I read back then.

No one leaves me even on my 900. Drop a gear and crack on the throttle.

Ring do you have any pictures of your intake mod?
I have a friend with a 2002 classic that needs TLC as the prior owner screwed up the intake he used duct tape and golf tee's to do the mods. Just want to do it right this time ;)
