Vaquero stereo upgrade
Has anyone upgraded the Vaquero stereo?
I'd like to keep the stock head unit for the controls, but wanna go louder!! I've watched a couple of videos on you tube. Just curious if anyone has done this?

My upgrade which was kinda based on cost and ease of doin it involved using Power Puck amplifiers feeding into Kicker speakers. A nice improvement over stock, maybe not as good as the more elaborate and higher powered amps like the Rockford/Fosgate type amps that are maybe more powerful but require a lot more installation time.
A taller shield helps tremendously by lessening wind noise. RACNRAY

I never had an issue hearing the radio/stereo on my Voyager. Most of the time it was loud enough at half the maximum volume.

Do after market speakers help the flat mid range of the factory set up? I may sound like a music nerd here but base and treble are great but most of what makes a tune worth listening to like vocals and instrumentals live in the middle. I have had over the top home and auto systems in the past. Check that, have over the top home audio. Just because something isn't new doesn't mean it won't rattle your neighbor a block away's windows. The Voyager system sounds okay sitting on the stand with the engine off at low volume. But out on the road at speed if you have to turn it up over 15 to here it well the mid range seems to just disappear. This may just be my nitch of hearing loss but do after market speakers help this any?

Hope this isnt a tabu since this was posted on another forum, that I know some of you here are also members of, but we'll see. This is what I did to improve mine. The amp made a big difference with the stock speakers and the 6 1'2" speakers helped the high end even more. The lows are better until you start adding volume.

Have heard someone else say they only had bass and treble adjustments. Possibly thats why I havent had the results some have had with the polk speakers, an upgraded head unit on the 12s compared to earlier units.
