Clearcoat damage

Any suggestions on repairing or minimizing the scuffing of the clear coat finish?

It depends on how deep the scuff is. I think the clearcoat is pretty thick on these bikes. If it's not deep you could try Mequiar's ScratchX. Not deep means you can't really feel it if you drag your finger nail over it. If it's deep you may need to use a process of using cut polish and a buffer or even 1200 to 1500 grit paper and wet sand, then cut polish, then finish polish. If it needs that, it may be a good idea to give it to somebody that specializes. I had a fender done on my last bike and the body shop guy I went to buffed it out and charged me $50. HE knew what he was doing and had the tools to do it with. It was worth every $.

If the damage isn't real deep yu can hand buff a lot out. I am no painter, but dabble hard at it.

So my methods usually run hand buff a lot first, to see if that will do it, and then if not, power buff what's left.

The first bike I ever painted with 8 colors if clear counts, scared me bad, to power buff, but I suffered thru it ok. Still looks good since then in Spring 02.

Don't get overly fussy. Its a bike and meant to be used. I got saddle bag scars i won't fix. So what.....

I had a tool bag under the lamp and it ate fender paint. I missed seeing the bag hit the fender in a nose dive. That didn't set well with me, and i want a bag there with tools, but not now, not till I fix the blooming nose diving with springs or spacers and 30 W oil. Maybe add air.

Whar's these scars at anyway?

Just be careful and use as light a touch as you possibly can.
