06 Nomad, 76k miles, a few days ago started making a different noise in top end, like not getting enough oil. Went away after a few minutes. Reminded me of the same noise made after it was parked on kick stand for several days. I

I park it in a front wheel chock and rode today for about 15 miles and left it parked for 45 mins. Would not crank only a weak sputter. “Cranked” with me twisting the throttle and sounded like running on one cylinder, black smoke coming out of rear cylinder pipe. Sounds like timing is off and dies. No idea where to start looking.

I'd start there. Unless gremlins got in the engine while it was parked for 45min, what happened from the time you rode 15 miles until it blew black smoke?

Nothing happened, in my sight the entire time. Checked oil before ride, it was fine. Has been making a noise like a sewing machine for over a year, every time I posted about it it was deemed normal. The noise today was louder. No code flashes.

Has your bike had the cam chain tensioner extensions installed ? If not at 76,000 miles it is long overdue. Maybe the chain has slipped and altered the cam timing ?

How can I test for timing being out? I’m off for few days, plan to pull plugs, take a look at throttle body, check cam tensioners. See what I can see…

Isn't it just. This site admins need to get it sorted out. It's been doing it for ages.
