Ride for Fort McMurray Alberta - Saturday May 14th

After seeing the massive destruction of the city of Fort McMurray last week, I decided I wanted to do something to help. I'm organizing a ride in support of the victims of the fires and am inviting anyone who can make it to join us.

Ride will congregate at the BMO in Shawnessy, Calgary, at 10am this coming Saturday. Riders are asked for a minimum donation of $20 each, 100% of proceeds will go to the Red Cross for Fort McMurray. Tax receipts will be available for those that would like one.

Ride itself will head out around 10:30 and head west on 22, through Bragg Creek, then loop north and East and take Stoney Trail and do a complete clock-wise circle of the city. This is significant because the ride will encompass an area very close to the size of the fire as of today. Our end-point will be Dixon's pub in Midnapore, where Samantha and the team there will be donating $1 from every pint sold to disaster relief efforts.

They're predicting a high of 13 for Saturday as of tonight. Just a sweatshirt underneath should be good for me. Good news is that the fire chief in Ft. Mac figures they have the fire just about beat, at least around town. The bad news is about 2400 buildings gone.

Can't make the ride but I am in for a donation Tracey. Tell me how and who to send it to. We have friends here who's son lost his house, RV and pretty much everything else.

You can go to the Red Cross website and donate, or you can Paypal it to me and I can add it to what we've collected so far between donations from here and the VR site Dave. Whichever works for you, let me know!

It wasn't quite the turnout that we had hoped for, just 4 of us (Gascan, Eagle Eye, myself and a buddy riding a Valkyrie) but we had a good and safe ride. Gascan was in charge of the donations so I don't know the exact number of $ raised. I do know that there were donations through Paypal that may not have come through yet.

Well guys..as a Fort Mac resident I thank you all. Yesterday was my first day back to the mac after 32 days of being evacuated. It sure felt good coming home to such a heart felt warm welcome. This is a extremely strong community of people and I'm so proud to be from here. The house is fine and so are our belongings, now to get on with life. Work starts on June 10th for me and as much as I liked the time off, its going to be good to get back to normal routine.
