Fires in Colorado

Well, I had hoped that this would happen later than it is but there are several fires in Colorado and one that we may have to watch because it is in Rocky Mountain National Park but it is in a remote location for now and only hiking trails in the area have been closed. It is on the west side of the divide so Estes Park is safe unless something extrodinary happens to push the fire over the divide.

Hopefully the weather conditions in the next week will improve and allow them to do some proactive work on the fire. That area has some chance of rain in the next week and we can only hope that they get some to make a difference.

For those coming from the west side of RMNP, keep track of information as we learned last year, these fires can move quickly with all of the beatle kill that we have in the mountains. I will keep track of what is going on and will make sure everyone here knows the situation.

Thanks Bill. The other site that was brought up today on road conditions will have that posted as well.

I see US-50 west of Canon City is closed due to fire. Hopefully it will open up or I'll have to detour.

Yeah...I'll have to keep an eye out too. We hope to ride in from Craig, CO via 34 (Trail Ridge Road)....but may have to take the northern route across 14 over towards Fort Collins, then back westbound on 34 into Estes. Guess time will tell.....

Kegger out at the fire. After drinking all the beer we can put the fire out with the second hand water. You do know that for every beer in two go out in volume.

At least this fire seems to be growing slowly unlike the ones last year. The Big Meadow fire is at 600 acres but if this occurred last year at this time it would be well over 10,000 acres in 2 days.

Looking at the weather over the next 10 days for Estes Park it will help if it is true. There are several chances of rain but the big thing is that temperatures are supposed to cool down by around 10*. It appears to be the same for Grand Lake which is on the West side of the divide and closer to the fire. Pray people.

If the damn "tree huggers" would quit protesting on logging out the beetle kill their wouldn't be as much fuel for the fire to thrive on.

That Black Forest fire near the Springs is doing some serious damage. I hope you guys get some rain, and the storm clears out before next weekend.
