"HA" Story thread... gone to gun thread

My neighbor and I took a four-hour ride today and we rode with a "HA"...

Well... the truth is... he came up from behind us as we were going through the city of Rockford, and couldn't get around us. I eventually was able to let him get around me... to which he looked me in the eye and nodded (Which is rare to get any acknowledgment from them -- and I have read it is best to not even look directly at them if possible -- but I couldn't avoid it).

Once around us he couldn't go any faster around other traffic, so we rode staggered for a couple miles behind him through the city -- stopping along with him at stop-lights and such -- as if we were in his group. LOL!! (We couldn't really slow-down because of other traffic -- so we had to keep-up with him. We had no where to go, besides turn-off in a "not so good-side of town" -- and that wasn't going to happen.)

Once he turned off he nodded again... which, like I said, is pretty rare.

Anyway... I am just real happy he didn't take the long rope (with a heavy-metal bead on the end of it) that was hanging from his right-grip and whoop my @ss or something like that!!

EDITED TITLE: to better fit the eventual content of this thread... who cares about
1%ers anyway!!!

I don't know why everyone has fear of the HA.
They are just enjoying there rides like everyone else.
When was the last time you heard of one of them doing anything
to a citizen. They don't have the time for us like they used to.
They are busy playing with the other biker gangs. Almost makes you feel left out.

.45 caliber, semi-automatic handgun = an equalizer

Makes a bigger impact than a biker whip.

.45 Cal. Sim-Auto handgun invented in 1911. Its design is still the base design for most sim-auto's today.

"HA" Story thread... gone to gun thread

Ah... I see... well that about sums-up my knowledge about handguns.

My neighbor was asking what the rope was for, so I was explaining how they use it as a whip for protection (or intimidation); as well as how they'll wrap some of it around their fist so that when they hit you it helps protect their knuckles (besides giving your face one hell of a rash).

Anyway... the metal-ball on the end of the rope had a couple points on it... I suppose to give it more effect upon impact, or to break glass if needed. There was a special hook he had mounted on the right handle-bar that held the metal-ball... while the rope (about 3/4 inches in diameter) hung down nearly dragging the road when stopped (otherwise it was whipping around in the wind when moving).

It was interesting to say the least...

Greg, remember the standard issue handgun for the armed forces before they switched over to the Berreta 92 9mm? It was the Colt .45 ACP Model 1911. A f.ine weapon that should have remained the standard issue. Mag capacity and lighter weight were the two main reasons for the change.

Thanks Mitch.

I've not ever owned a handgun, or knew much about them. I was thinking of adding one to my arsenal though.

I can see where once in a while they might come in handy

I mostly have shotguns.

If I were getting a hand gun (and only one) for home defense and was not going to shoot it much I would buy a revolver not a smi-auto. A revolver has less moving parts which = less chance to fail. With a revolver if you have a misfire (they do happen) all you have to do is pull the trigger again. Clearing a misfire in a smi-auto takes time and can be problematic. A revolver will never jam or stovepipe because you did not hold it right.

The advantage of an auto is "capacity" - They can hold more rounds so shoots can "spray and pray" as they say. For my protection, I will take simplicity and reliability.

If on the other hand you are going to shoot a lot. Take the time and effort to learn how to clear jams and stovepipes. Learn how to clear a misfire. Lear how to not allow "weak wrist" jams. Then you might want to consider a smi-auto.

If I were to have only one handgun for home defense and not for carry, it would be the Taurus Judge 3" Mag. It is a 5 shot revolver that will chamber 3" .410 gauge shotgun shells in either fine shot, buckshot, or slugs and also the .45 Long Colt. It's not the most accurate having a smooth bore 3" barrel but it's pretty easy to drop a home invader in his tracks with 9 pellets of 000 buckshot. For carry, I prefer autos, namely Glocks. Easier to conceal and pull, high capacity mags, no safety to fumble with, and extremely reliable. Never had a misfire or failure to eject in either of my Glock carrys. Both are .40 caliber. Ya just have to remember to keep the "bugger hook" away from the trigger until you are ready to shoot. Greg, does Illinois allow private ownership of a handgun without a permit?

I'm a big fan of Glock myself. For home defense I like my Winchester 12 ga Defender.7 shot and 18.5 barrel.Just racking the slide is enough to make a thug think twice.

Colt Commander in .45. One clip silver tips, the other ball. The back up is a hi-power with clip full of black tallons. Backing up that is a bukuto...

Ponch, Here's a good primary and backup combination. Just a little too much weight when walking long distances.
