Another lighting option
With inspiration from James “Bubba” and others on this site, I finally added additional tail/brake lights.
I went with Drag Specialties’ Capsule Lights. They are pretty cheap since a local store ordered them for me from Drag Specialties and didn’t charge shipping. They are also versatile, using standard 1157 bulbs and they come with yellow and red lenses. They are bright and visible from the side too. I mounted them on my Cobra luggage rack. The angle was a bit of a challenge so I used vinyl spacers to square them to the lines of the bike. Lights: http://www.jpcycles.com/product/3300027?....ement_search= 1 They only drawback I’ve seen is that if the tail and brake lights are on at the same time for too long, it could melt the lens. I figure if that happens, I’ll get new lenses and LED bulbs. Scott M. Kelm Login or Register to Remove Ads |

You can never have to much rear lighting, it good to play it safe.
Good work.

Mac just had a post where he did something similar.
I have tombstone lights on my saddlebags but may try something like this on Cindy's 900LT.

There is another 1157 bulb. The base is the same but the glass is far smaller. The wattage is up a bit too, for a brighter bulb at 8 and 23 watts per filiment.
Drag Specialties number is 2060-0202, but these should be had in any auto stores as well.

I have high doubts about any cooler since that is a matter of watts used, but the glass bulb will get more air space. In another thread in this room a week ago I bought similar lights, that used the smaller glass bulb, as the normal bulb is too big.
If more air space seems to be a cooler option, and I don't know that it is or not, then it could be a cheap option There is yet another bulb. I am not sure i know the correct number, but it might be something like LL 3157????? Which is the same base as 1157, but the brake light filiment is more in watts. What ever that is I have in the stock tail lamp for a brighter brake effect. So far as I know 8 watts is standard in all type of 1157 bulbs as marker watts. The lamp bucket for what I bought is smaller yet compared to what you bought, and the glass part just fits the housing. If you swapped bulbs to the style i have you would probably have 3/16" more air gap around the glass part of the bulb. In my thread i placed the link to what it is I bought. And since i have lower bag rails I mounted down there to the rear rails clamp bolt, just by making a small braket, that looks like a drive chain link side, but in s steel. I found down there was pretty easy to wire to as well, since there is a rear lamp cover bolted up under the rear fender. I use red and blue wire to mimic stock and soldered these into the stock wires. A pair to a side. The units pick off ground just from being bolted to metal bolted to the frame.

While I was in Chicago this past week I ran across another Nomad (looked like an 06 or 07) that had nice LED brake lights on the rear of each saddle bag that was flush to the surface.
I would have asked where he got them but he was going in the oposite direction. Anyone seen these before? Yes they were stock Kaw Nomad hard bags.
