2014 Nomad-wicked buffetting

I'm not sure what I've missed although I'm sure it's something. I've done everything I know to do to stop the horrible buffetting on my Nomad, especially at highway speeds. I've added a set of Airlite crash bar close outs and installed a set of Chucksters large lower deflectors this morning. Still, I get out on the highway and the buffetting seems as bad as ever. I've had the windscreen in the highest position. Not sure if that matters. I lowered it to the lowest position after I got home this afternoon thinking it might lessen the amount of breeze coming in between the windscreen and lowers. I'll try that tomorrow afternoon to see if it makes a difference. If not, I'm at a loss. I like the Nomad but I'm about to trade it off on something if I can't ride it on the highway.

What other things can someone suggest? I can't be the only one who has this issue yet I don't see alot of threads about it so it has to be me.

Thanks.

Fairing with lower wind deflectors maybe. I have an 06 Nomad and use the
Memphis Shades batwing fairing with wind deflectors. Have used for years and along with my CHUCKSTERS larger lowers I have almost no buffeting. The position of your handle bars/arms could also affect buffeting as well as helmet style. I can send a pic of my set up if you want. Idk how different it would be from a 14 model...

Thanks but I'm not putting a fairing on this. If I can't stop the buffetting w/o a fairing, I'll trade this off on something else.

I see you had a 2007 Nomad. Is the buffeting on the 2014 Nomad worse than the 2007 ? It shouldn't be.

Has the previous owner of the 2014 cut down the windshield ?

In your pics the "lower windshield" has a big gap around the headlight. Have you been able to close that gap?

Have you done the old test of putting your arm across your chest as you ride to ensure the buffeting is not coming from below?

Crashbar covers? Temporarily you could try some cling-wrap for testing purposes.

Let us know your progress. Good luck.

Another thought.

Call the previous owner and find out if he removed anything before he sold it that might have effected the buffeting? Or just asked if he had the same issue?

I think you just spoiled yourself with the Vision and the fairing on the 07.

My wife said on my 06 with the windshield, if I leaned down or forward the wind would practically take her out of her seat. Once I put the fairing on that didn't happen.

I know it made a big difference for me also on how much less buffering from the flat screen to the batwing fairing. The JTD lowers also made it even better.

I just think that big barn door flat screen causes most of that buffering coming up under it. A fairing is contoured to push the air out around the sides.

I never thought about that gap between the windscreen and the headlight. My '07 had a piece that slid down to cover that area if the windscreen was up. I guess the 1700s don't have that piece. Since I've lowered the windscreen down, it should cover most of that gap. I'll go out in a few minutes to see if it made a difference.

Honestly, I didn't even think to try the arm across the chest thing. I'll try that, aswell.

I have close outs now along w/Chucksters large lowers.

I'm afraid you're right. We'll see in a bit. :)

I have an '09 with larger lowers, Desert Dawgs, screen fully raised, and the gap filler panel removed (mine shattered at speed). I ride without a helmet 98% of the time and experience no buffeting up to 100mph. The wife says the air is calm on her as well. Check the screen mounts and see if they're loose or if the angle of the screen has been modified.

the stock windshield off my 1700 Nomad has the filler just like the 1500 Nomad had ! the 1700 windshield tilts back further than the other Nomads . the addition of the Reckless fairing and the trunk kit to equal out the weight made my 1700 keepable !

The aerodynamic shape of a batwing cured the buffeting on my 1300 V Star.

I tried cutting down the stock windshield that comes with a V Star Tourer but it made the buffeting worse and the wind would blow the big barn door windshield all over the road. Not so with a batwing.

Mine doesn't have the filler piece. I'll have to look for one.

I have larger lowers, Airlite close outs (similar to your Desert Dawgs) and w/the screen fully raised, I got buffeted so badly, I got a splitting headache. All mounts are tight and everything is the way it was from the factory.

When I had my '07 Nomad, I tried to make it into a Harley. It was suggested (accurately, I might add) that if I wanted a Harley, I should have bought a Harley. I don't want to get into the same dilemma. If I spend hundreds/thousands of dollars modifying my Nomad to make it into something else, I might as well spend the money on "something else".

With all that said, todays ride with the windscreen down was better but not "great". It still needs work. I guess I can order one of these (https://www.amazon.com/Motoparty-Adj...11&sr=8-4&th=1) but if that doesn't work, I'd have to try a batwing fairing. Again, if I did that, I'd start to spend hundreds of dollars on something that may or may not work out. Where do I stop?
