Tires... again!?
I've been toying with the possibibliy of putting a MT 90 16 tire on the front of my NAD..... that is essentially a 130/90/16... calls for a 3.00" rim recommeneded... 2.50 to 3.50 acceptable. Nomads have 3.50" rims front and back. I had not been able to find a 140 width tire for the front (I want something ever so slightly narrower for easier cornering). I'm leery to go down 2 width sizes from a 150 to a 130......
I finally came across a 140/90/16 (approved for the front) made by Duro which calls for a 3.50 rim and is ever so slightly taller and narrower than the stock 150/80/16..... it's like 1/10" taller and 1/10" narrower... I checked out some other size Duro's at the local bike shop... they look nice. The 140/90/16 is H speed rated and I believe it's either 67 or 71 Load rated... which is good.... Any thoughts from my beloved brethren??? Nomad Nico Login or Register to Remove Ads |

Tires... again!?
I finally found a matched pair of radial tires that will fit the Nomad. Everyone said there was no such thing.... they didn't realize the 130/70ZR 16 is made for a 3.50 rim.... not like the 130/90/16 which calls for a 3.00 rim and the 130/60ZR/16 needs 3.00 also!
Avon Azaro ST Radials Front 130/70/ZR 16 61W AV45-ST calls for 3.50 rim! Rear 150/80ZR 16 71W AV46-ST calls for 3.50 rim! They are a little lower LOAD rating....I didn't want to go lower that 67 on the front and 74 on back........ but I think it's ok. SPEED rating is High. These should handle incredibly...... ya think? Most of this is just dreaming anyway since I can't afford them right now... lol |

Tires... again!?
I made it as far as the bike shop... chickened out on getting the radials... the lower Load Rating scared me.... but I did order a
Maxxis Classic 6011 MT 90-16 74H for the front... have to try it.... (stubborn) If it doesn't feel right I'll give it to my friend that has a Vulcan 900LT. Login or Register to Remove Ads |

Tires... again!?
I had a bad experience with a radial tire and a 2005 Nomad. I put the 180/70 R16 Metzler ME880 on the rear and the 150/80 16 ME880 on the front. The rear is a radial and the front is a bias tire. Handled great, but when loaded up with a passenger, gear and the small trailer that I tow, I experienced a bad wobble in the handle bars. It went back to the dealer and everything was set up correctly. I ended up putting on a replacement OEM Bridgestone, which is a bias. Everything works fine, even with the trailer. The service manager told me that mixing radial and bias tires can cause problems.

Tires... again!?
Well I did it. I had the Maxxis Classic MT90-16 74H put on today. I had to try it. Rode around just a bit... about 30 miles... not hard... just to see how it feels......... U-turns and corners like my old Shadow 750...... feels light.......so far I like it... it's quiet for sure..............we'll see in the mountains and higher freeway speeds..... will keep you posted.
If you don't hear form me .............. |

The Maxxis Classic Front MT90-16 74H (High Load rated 130/90/16) ::)
It's actually 1/2 inch shorter than the Dunlop 404 150/80/16 that was on there (even though it's a 90 profile) and 1 inch narrower. :-* http://www.maxxis.com/products/motor...ail.asp?id=157 If it works out I'll get the Maxxis Touring Rear MU90-16 78H High load rated 140/90/16........ same width as the Dunlop 404 150/80/16 Rear and slightly taller.... |

Tires... again!?
Well I have an early report........ just got back from a little night ride with the wife on the back....... rode through town for a while and then got on the interstate......... It's definately different... only word that comes to mind around town is "nimble"... cornering is definately easier.... don't have to push or pull it into a lean at all.......
No noticeable difference on the freeway.. just as stable... so far gets an A..... will take it to the twistys tomorrow and report back! Nico |
