Had a bit of an accident

Well after 5 years of riding, had my first accident Wednesday. Feel like a doofus. I was second in line to turn right at an intersection. Car in front of me started to go. I looked back to the left to check traffic. No cars coming, so I let out on the clutch. As soon as I got my head turned to the right, Bam! The car in front had not gone ahead afterall.

Hit the lower left corner of the car. It was a glancing blow luckily. Minimal damage to the bike and only paint scratches to the car. Cracked the right turn signal. Scuffed the edge of the windshield. The main damage was to the right highway bar. It bent back all the way to the floorboard and brake pedal. Didn't drop the bike or even kill it. We pulled into a parking lot and exchanged info. Called 911 and they said if both vehicles are drivable an no one was hurt, to file a report at the station. I had to stand and kick the highway bar back forward to get the floorboard to lay down again and free up the brake pedal. The highway bar tabs folded back pretty bad and both bolts are pretty deformed.

Got parts on order from BikeBandit. Total of $147, not counting windshield plastic. I am going to try to polish to see if I can diminish the scuffed section.

Had a bit of an accident

superduty,

Sorry about your mishap, but glad to hear you are okay.

It is real easy for that to happen. I always try to be careful and I turn my head to see if anyone is coming when I am pulling into the left lane . Seems there is a trade off there, you never know if someone is going to stop or slow down in front of you.

I am surprised the highway bar bent like that, but I guess it was doing what it was supposed to do.

Again, glad you're okay...

Sorry to hear about your accident, glad you are okay. The damage is fixable, but losing a kawanow member would have been unacceptable

Sorry about your incident, but glad you weren't hurt.

I dropped my bike in a similar situation. Car started turning right, I followed and the car stopped for no reason. Bars were turned and I grabbed too much front brake. Timber...and over she went.

If it's a 1500 I would be too. If it's a 1600 I'm not surprised. The 1600 crashbar is a much weaker design.

Damn Superduty.... glad you're ok bud!! To be honest, I almost did the same thing about a week ago!!! Kind of decided that the "rolling, look left for traffic" thing wasn't the best course of action for me.... Now I stop!!! Again, glad you're ok bud!!!!

Superduty, great to hear you're ok. Nothing like this to put some focus back into our own "care factor".

the important thing is the fact you walked away unhurt. bikes can be replaced. people cannot.
