extra power and slip clutch
Hey BD, I just read Spork's thread in the General Forum about his installation of the PCIII and a BAK. He claims LOTS of new power and stated that he would have to start a "new tire fund" which would lead one to believe that the rear tire is breaking loose and burning off the line with enough throttle. That got me to thinking about our slipper clutches and what this much power would do to the clutch plates. Does the clutch just slip on the downshift to prevent wheel lock up or does it also slip when we are stirring the grears? Should people who make these intake mods also consider a clutch mod to prevent slipping or does that not matter?

Your exactly right Idaho. Mostly it's designed to slip on the downshift because the direction of the rotation of the clutch basket. Spork will notice a decrease in clutch life if he hot dogs it enough. There are replacement parts that turn the slipper clutch to a non slipper clutch that will hold more power but I like the slipper feature.

Generically it stands for Big Air Kit. Anything that opens up the intake on the Nomad would fall under that title. When you open up the pipes and the intake you get more power. It is apparently questionable as to whether you need a new power control module (aka ECM- engine control module) and seems to depend on the individual bike. My question here had to do with the added pressure that would be applied to the wet clutch with the new torque of the engine.

BD, Is it the same as the clutches offered by the aftermarket for Ducatis? These may be very different from what Spork mentioned. A guy had one that I saw at a local bike night. Hmmm, I might say I heard it! Noisy; but it was a dry clutch.
I have even seen slipper clutches offered for the 4 stroke MX bikes.

Ducatis come with slipper clutches. Yes a dry clutch is very noisy expecially with an aftermarket slotted cover for addtional cooling. Slipper clutches is becoming the norm.
