Rims --

What is the size of the front & back rim of the '06 nomad 1600?
16?
Whats the width?

Are the front & back the same size?

Whats the bolt pattern?

....you see where Im going with this yet? LOL

Im thinking of changing out my rims.

Anyone every do that? Got any pics? or links?

Havent seen anyone with different rims on their Nomad. I have seen one that the guy sent the rims off and had them Chromed.

Bolt pattern? Are you talking car wheels or motorcycle wheels?

I don't see why you'd have to go with the exact same tire size. You wouldn't want to go with a taller tire, as it would mess with the accuracy of your speedo, but with whatever width you'd like, that will still fit under the fender without rubbing.

Are you wanting chrome? Just chrome or polish the stockers. It would be much cheaper.

Yeah I wanna change, just the rim not the tires. Im running that "dark side" thing and like it so far.

What I was wondering was the bolt pattern, it is different in any way. So if I bought some after market rims is the size of the sleeve different, or wide , or anything connection wise, I should look out for?

No biggie, Im sure I could ask the store

And yeah pics , or something for-sure! Im just trying to switch it up a bit

You'd have to match alot more on a scoot than you would on a car as the brake rotor mounts to the wheel. I've never seen a Nomad rear wheel in person but I'm guessing the hub (whatever it's called that the drive shaft connects to) is either integral with the wheel or it's bolted to it. That would have to match up, too.

Not trying to discourage you by any means. Just giving you food for thought.

The 1500's have a 3.5" rim width, and the 1600's have a 4.5" rim. Im not sure if there are many other wheels out there that would fit, especially on the rear.

I'm installing 17" Mean Streak rims on my VN1600. The bearings and hub widths are the sane. The front rotors are the same diameter and same width center to center. Rear disc is the same diameter and offset.

I kinda figured I wasn't the only one to think of the Mean Streak wheels on the Classic or Nomad. Just haven't found pictures of that yet.

I'm debating using radial tires or bias-ply tires on the 17" rims. My first choices at least matching the overall diameter and at least the same or better load ratings.

Just my two cents: IMO Radials are not good feedback providing tires on motorcycles. I am at the end of a tire test, where the radials are quickly becoming more and more unsatisfying to ride upon.
In the spring, will be swapping out both to get back to BIAS ASAP...

The radials do ride smoother than bias, however, they don't provide the feedback because of the softer/smoother ride. The steering feels 'mushy' in the corners. All of this is IMHO and is just my two cents...

Running up fast into a corner or hot into a on ramp with soft squiggly tires on a Vaquero or Nomad is a receipt for severe case of asphalt rash....

So in your opinion, which I value, DL which type of tires radials or bias, do you prefer?

Well Peg, when it comes to tires, they just don't last long enough for me. I was dual Dark Sided on my Harley of 20+ years of ownership. To me, radials have a tendency to be soft feeling unless they are the thin sidewall types. I prefer bias ply, hold the road, just as good.
I like to feel in control. Radials thru a long sweeping curve doing 85 mph, with some bumps thrown in for good measure will make you ask if they did this on purpose. On cars yes....on motorcycles....no....on cars they have radial tuned suspension and 2 more tires than we do.

At this time you could not give me a set of radials for my bike unless it was a trike.
