Just thinking
I saw a 1700 a few weeks ago for the first time. There was a lot I liked on it. One thing in particular was the nacelle setup. I like the digital fuel gauge, as well as the readouts for the miles left, etc., as well as the key placement (I hate the placement of the key switch on the 03.
I got to wondering if it might be possible to mount a nacelle from one of the 09 or 10 1700s to an older model Nomad. What do you guys think?

Different wiring harness.... different mounting points and brackets. not saying can't be done but if your gonna go to that much trouble... buy yourself a Voyager and ride the heck out of it instead of spending all that time in the shop. Just be sure and schedule your vacation in the winter and leave your worries behind.

Unfortunately, it is far more complicated than simply installing a console assembly from a newer bike. Wiring and ECU would be different.

I have reduced any thinking to less than 16 seconds a day. Thinking is just too hard.
The ECU would be a real big deal. The 03 can get the key location moved pretty easy. The nacell can be drilled with care and switches can be added. Gas gauges are for cars..... I wish for another trip meter, but can't have one, atleast I didn't see how. If I did one meter would be for fuel and the other trips.

CJ and Mac: Yeah, I figured it would be a problem with the ECU. It was just wishful thinking, anyway.
Mac, I imagine the 16 seconds of thinking you do is probably far more profitable than the hours of "thinking" some people do! Schoeney: Yeah, I have looked at that as well. That will probably be what I do, sometime. And why is your jacket different on your pic? Did you buy a new jacket? :)

Doug,
Wow...you are very observant to notice that. Actually that pic was taken when I was going through Lolo Pass in Montana. It got a little chilly so I threw my windbreaker over my riding jacket. But I do have a new mesh jacket as well, just in case anyone is stalking me I can change colors. ;) Oh...the hair color is a disguise too....normally it is jet black.

Dougster,
I too hated the key location. My fix was working with Chuckster for a relocation to the top of my Phat II risers. |

I like the location on the '08 but you can't have anything dangling or it will mess up the speedo glass and chrome.
