Charlie's nightmare

My good friend Charlie purchased a 2006 Nomad from a dealer in Fort Worth, Texas and it got picked up today, in Texas, to be shipped to Great Fall, Montana. He's waited over a week for the Nomad to ship and got a phone call from the trucking company today telling him the Nomad was dropped. At this point he doesn't know exactly how high it was dropped from, or if it was just laid down (the trucking company says laid down, but until we see the Nomad, who knows), and how much damage has been done. The trucking company says they are sending Charlie a compensation sheet and will fix anything that is damaged but the Nomad will not get to Montana until next Wednesday so Charlie has to wait another week to see what the damage is. I can't believe anyone that's in the transport business, and apparently this division of this trucking company does nothing but transport motorcycles, would be careless enough to "drop" someones cycle.

Not trying to stir the pot, but for them to fess up it must have some visible damage. They are well insured and will undoubtedly restore it to it's original condition. Good luck.

I'm with Cajunrider. They could have just ignored it and claimed the used bike was given to htem that way. Your friend might ask the previoius owner if he has some pictures for acomparision when the bike arrives.

Charlie's been told that the hard bag and bag guard are damaged but which side, don't know. Hopefully it's cosmetic damage and the Nomad is ridable since we're running out of warm weather up here in Alberta and he'd like to ride now and not in the snow.

The same thing happened to me when my bike was shipped, I received a call from them telling me the bike got damaged in transit. I had to price out all the damage and submit an estimate, it was over $3000.00 and thats when the fun starts. The company didin't want to pay all that and they start giving you the runaround. If you have additional insurance that you take out when the item is shipped it, it will probably be ok. In my case the seller shipped the bike to me and didn't purchase the extra insurance, in the end the trucking company is obligated to pay a maximum of $2.00 @ pound, and this is what I ended up receiving after numerous phone calls. I fixed the major damage and the few small scratches that it had, I just left alone.

Oh, no! That really sucks. I hope the damage isn't too severe and the transport company makes good on the repairs. Tough break for your buddy.

OUCH... a saddlebag is worth 1000 bucks, and then each stainless steel accent strip is another 50 bucks each! I don't recall what the crash bar is. Sorry to hear it..

Uggh, hate to hear that. As they say, the waiting is the hardest part, especially when you don't know the extent of the damage. Best of luck to Charlie.

Charlie's nightmare

Hi Everyone, thank you for your concern re: my bike- hopefully it is minimal damage and the trucking co. cooperates. The trucking co. sent me a claims form & said they would make it like new so will see when it arrives.

Good luck Charlie. From what they have said, it sounds like they are willing to fulfill their duty.
