Warranty and synthetic oil

Just got back from stealership. Took bike in for inspection. Service guy (manager) told me they had a 1600 classic top end taken apart in the shop but MaKaw won't warrantee it because the guy was using synthetic oil. They say it runs down out of top end. I told him no way, didn't believe it for a minute. So is he trying to spin me a yarn? Or is corporate taking this poor guy for a ride? Or is this for real? ??? Thots?

Warranty and synthetic oil

Unless Kawasaki states that synthetic oil is approved for use in the engine, this is a legitimate out for them. I don't buy the story either, but the owner of the bike has no leg to stand on.

It doesn't sound right to me either, I call the oil company and explain the situation to them.

Warranty and synthetic oil

If it were true, I'd just change my oil to dino oil before heading in for the repair.

I wonder if he was running a fuel controller and had it too rich which will kill the valve guides and cause the engine to loose compression

I dunno. For the Ninjas, maybe? I was just saying unless it states that synthetic oil is approved by Kaw for use in our engines, they have him by the short hairs. I don't know if the manual states anything about synthetic oil or not. It doesn't matter to me, my warranty is up.

I did some checking and one should insist in writing on company letterhead a statement of no warranty with the oil you use as the reason for such action and inform the dealer you will be forwarding it to the oil maker.

That's a good idea. Also, did the dealer sell and install this oil?

Warranty and synthetic oil

I don't get that at all. Get a lawyer to right up a simple statement of claim asking for written reasons for the denial of warranty.

http://www.kawasaki.ca/accessories/d...id=1856&mid=95 Isn't S4 full synthetic? If the oil meets the Kawai book requirements good luck for the dealer and Kawasaki.

If Kawasaki denies a claim on the basis of synthetic oil alone, we should all be wondering about where Kawai is going?

Warranty and synthetic oil

I will have to talk with the service manager at the local dealership here and see if he knows anything. I know one thing and that is that they also sell the full synthetic oil.

Warranty and synthetic oil

Cuppla things...main one is per other poster, Ma KAWA herself sells Synthetic oil under her own brand..case closed right there....but also, if somebody has synthetic oil in bike, how can anyone tell, short of lab testing, that it is synthetic and not dino?

If the oil rating meets or exceeds the mfr recommendation, then unless the owner manual or warranty say "you must not use sythetic (or blended?) oil" what's the beef from mfr..

my two centavos..
