Synthetic Oil Change

I am currently running Amsoil 10W-40 synthetic. I have 11k on the bike. Had the oil change using synthetic at 6600 mi. At what intervals should I change synthetic oil ?

I asked Amsoil that same question. They said to run Amsoil twice as long as regular oil!

Synthetic or dino, I change my oil every 3000 miles. I don't care what the Amsoil guy says, I'm not riding his bike, I'm riding mine.

I change mine out at around 4000 miles. Running straight dino is a 2000 mile interval for me. I will be giving Rotella T6 a try this year. It's local, cheaper and it is a 5w40 so it should give a little better cold start up protection.

I have used amsoil synthetic for years in my cars and motorcycles.
I change the oil at least every 5000 miles but change the filter every 2500 miles and top off the oil. My oil comes out looking new and clean. My driving and riding are mostly highway and back country roads and very little city (thank god ) so if you do more city stop and go then you may want to do oil changes more often.

Just my two cents, Krash

With the heat I ride in, I don't let it go more than 3000.

Why wouldn't you also use a 20W50 oil in the hot months as well?

I am going to do mine every 3000 to 3500.
Good oil means Happy Engine....
I am going to do my rear end oil about every 5000.
I figure those are good numbers.

Synthetic Oil Change

I am in Hot South Texas and I have been changing my synthetic oil after 3000 and a new ST 7317 Walmart filter. My oil is ALWAYS black when I change, which I expect due to the transmission not having a separate oil tank. My Walmart does not carry Rotella Syn except in the $5+ qt. size. May have to rethink oil change miles to around 4000 what with the cost of Syn. oil.

as a general rule i change synthetic oil every 3000 miles.i have
at times stretched that distance out a bit if on a long trip as it is
a real pain to change oil when on a road trip.

Synthetic Oil Change

Well, I am at 4400 miles, so I guess I will be changing it this weekend. This is my first experience with synthetic oil, so I appreciate you guys' input and patience. Any suggestions on the weight ? I am presently using 10w-40

Synthetic Oil Change

Frank, I had been using the Mobil 1 motorcycle specific 10w-40 in winter and 20w-50 in the summer. My local Wal Mart no longer stocks either so I switched to Rotella T full synthetic in 5w-40. I rode to Grand Isle today and it shifts smoothly and I no longer hear lifter tapping on cold starts. If it does well for 3,000 miles on the Rotella T synthetic, I will go with the improved Rotella T which is now Rotella T6 in 5w-40. I also use the Wal Mart Super Tech 7317 filter. I have two left. I had to hit 3 Wal Marts to find any. I purchased 3 at the last of the 3 Wal Marts I visited.
