Rider Magazine Sept Issue
I got my September issue of Rider today, and their feature is a touring cruiser shootout, pitting the 2009 Voyager, the 2009 Harley Ultra Classic Electra Glide, Victory Vision Tour Premium and the Royal Star Venture S against each other.

Oh, yeah...how did the Voyager do? They rated it in last place.

No. They said it felt heavy and sluggish, they complained about the windshield height (all reviewers seem to, they must get 5'6" test riders), they gave it good marks for storage capacity and the Voyager has the smallest load rating out of the 4. They did like the ABS system and said it was superior to HD's.

FWIW, as a recent Goldwing driver and still a 1500 CC Victory driver (two oustanding bikes for pure go fast) I was very disappointed by the power (lack of) put out by my 1700 Nomad, but kept my mouth shut (relatively) because as my Momma' said, "if you don't have somethin' good to say" etc, etc. Plus, I liked the bike anyway, so what the hey. But, my thought then was, mmmmmm, baby, this ain't gonna' be enough for that Voyager" and I seldom ride two up!!!
On the one hand, it won't put any pressure on your arms bein' pulled till you hit about 35-40 and even then its no great wrestling contest, on the other hand, I kinda' get the feelin' that it has the potential in there but Kawasaki has it bottled up pretty good. This may be an engine that will really come into its own with pipes, an air box and fuel controller. Sigh! Its been a long time since I rode a bike that could be owned by a Harley in a drag race, but I compensate now, when I'm challenged at a stop light I usually just say "could you hold on a minute I wanna' go home and get my Vic." It must scare the hades out of 'em because they usually get a funny look on their face and ride off. ::) So think "downshift", its easy to do. :) Login or Register to Remove Ads |

In one of our Canadian magazines they did a review of the Vulcan Classic, and Nomad this month. It was about as generic as you could write it. They said it was ok, that they made some improvements over the previous models. My favorite part was when they said the Nomad's not bad for a lightweight tourer. I wonder what they considor a medium or heavyweight bike if the the 1700 Vulcans are lightweights.

I don't know about the 1700 as I don't own one but after I opened the air and exhaust and installed a fuel controller on my 1600 I will put it up against any stock Harley they make, also I would think the 1700 would do better but as I said I don't know as I don't have one. :)

No stock Harley owns me in a drag and I know the 1700s are faster and stronger. You must have a lemon. Seems like I have to pull most Harleys up steep hills with my bike.

And I got that same mag and you could tell Rider was sucking up to the American bikes. Guess they're trying to help Harley from going under.
