Shut down with the throttle wide opened. This way the butterflies are fully opened so you can use an old toothbrush along with a spray can of carb / intake cleaner to scrub the intakes.

When cleaning the throttle body............

After Terrebonne's way, I start the bike up and spay a very liberal blast down the injectors with the throttle wide open. It won't rev high and the extra fuel from the spray keep the rpms down and I blast both injectors for at least 20 seconds wide open.

I couldn't get the butterflies to stay open but I cleaned it the best I could with them closed and then started the engine and rev'd it up a bit and sprayed some in with them open that way. It did help my idle. I think I may go ahead and add some sea foam though and maybe that will help even more.
Thanks

You have to hold the twist grip wide open with one hand while you spray and scrub with the other hand.

You do it first with the engine off, then start the bike and spray some more in. The bike will sputter and try to stall, so you have to play with the throttle a bit trying to keep it running. After spraying about 5-10 seconds in each venturi your done.

Use some sence when you do this running... Things could get right out of hand pretty easy.

It is possible for vibration to drop the shifter into some gear... There is no harm in cleaning off, then after firing the bike up to burn off the excess, then add more cleaner and allow it some time.

This isn't going to clean injectors, as it is more like hosing down the outside of a garden hose spray nozzel.

Hosing down a nozzel from the outside isn't going to clean the inside.

Now if you mist the intake well and turn the engine over with one plug missing in each cly you can clean up the piston top carbon, and the ring varnishes. Soak it as long as you like.

Mine gets that as stored all winter..

I had been getting crappy mileage and I did mine Sunday afternoon. Went out last night and the mileage went from 32-33 to 38. Idles better too. Yes they were filthy. I did clean them last year...
