Anyone ridden to Alaska?

I started a thread in the "trip" forum but I missed the mark in my question/inquiry so I thought I would post it here. I am still looking for any input from anyone that is familiar with this road. Much appreciated.

Here is a link to my other thread...it has some detail...kind of interesting about Ron Ayers involvement.

http://kawanow.proboards77.com/index...ay&thread=9534

Thanks
Greg

Anyone ridden to Alaska?

after reading ron ayers book i did the ride to hyder, alaska about
3.5 years ago.it is an awesome ride on roads that are paved all the way.i left the last week in august but still had a fair amount
of 50 degree very rainy wheather.i would highly recomend a heated vest and very good waterproof clothing and gloves.for
the most part i rode 350 to 550 miles per day and camped in
established camp grounds where i could get a decent hot shower.
there are good motels available in stewart,b.c. which is just on
the canadian side before you cross into hyder.make sure you go to the park along the river where you can observe brown bears
feeding in the salmon stream.this is just a few miles down a good gravel road out of hyder.keep in mind that no bear spray/pepper
spray or handguns will be allowed into canada.also canada now requires a passport.expect very high gas prices and the longest
distance between gas stations was 130 miles.this is a trip you must do as it looks good on the most visited states map and very
few riders have done it.

Anyone ridden to Alaska?

A friend of mine did it on a 1999 Nomad. It took him 19 days round trip and went as far as Fairbanks I think. It was something like 9000 miles. I'd like to do it, just not this year. May be the next.

Copy and paste this address (won't work just clicking on it)

Interesting log of a rider who made the trip.

Anyone ridden to Alaska?

When we leaving? I have always wanted to go to Alaska. Read a book when I was an early teen called "Alaska" and have been infatuated by the journey ever since....

Anyone ridden to Alaska?

We can ride down to Key West, leave from there as our official start point. How's that sound?
