Insurance companies / costs?

Anyone using Progressive or Foremost, especially anyone who has had a claim?

My auto insurance (Erie) was very good price wise on my cars, and when they quoted me $350 a year (full coverage) for my 96 vulcan 1500, I didn't think too much of it.

But when I called them to insure a 2011 Vaquero and he said $575,I about crapped...LOL. Almost as much as my 500hp 2005 Mustang.... no way?

Both Progressive and Foremost are quoting me about $275 year

I use Foremost (through Farmers) - when I totaled my Honda Magna last May, they were more than fair, gave me more than what I paid for the bike and covered the safety gear. For my 2000 Nomad Fi it's $228/year for full coverage for a $5,000 bike. I didn't think that was a bad price, especially for the service I have gotten.

I ride with Progressive. Have State Farm for the house and car. Cost me about $40 per month for full coverage for the Nomad through Progressive.

I use Progressive and like them. I crashed a 01 insured for 1000 over, and was treated right in the crash, and damage was extensive. Later no less that bike was stolen and I was treated right that time too.

Treated right doesn't mean all the talk was just sweet, but that I was able to make a point and be heard.

The crash cost me more in payments, but the crash was my loss of controll because a trailer I was towing with the bike came off the hitch. The theft cost me nothing more, and so I still use Progressive. The hard part there was contents in the saddle bags. The adjuster tried to say my personal items were part of the bike and I begged to differ. He came around to seeing it my way.

Thanks Tim, that's a good endorsement. I had never heard of them before today, and they told me they were a division of Farmers, made me feel better that I had at least heard of Farmers before.

Well, I guess Progressive may be ok too, but darn ANR, $40 month sounds a bit high...

Your all getting a bargain compared to the rates here. $80.00 a month is more normal here.

You should get a quote from at least 3 insurers. The rates for your area and your driving recored will be different than XYZ and their location and driving recored.

With Progressive, I have full coverage (-200 deductible) plus 5000 for mods plus full road service coverage (no mileage limit to come to my aid).

I've had Progressive for about 20 years. Couple small (not at fault) claims years ago. I pay around $350/year for full coverage ($500 deduct) on the Nomad and about $850/year full coverage on my '04 Blazer. I'm single so my rates are a bit higher than the married folks. I could maybe get a better deal but Progressive has always been fair with me so I can't see leaving. I'm just waiting on the OBD tattle tale thing for my truck. I drive like someones grandmother so I figure that should be good for another 30% off whenever Indiana approves it.

Thanks everyone. I realize there are a lot of variables to try and compare prices, I was mostly wondering how folks have been treated by various companies.

Hey Monkeyman, we are neighbors, I am to the north in Warsaw. Just cruised through your town last month while out for a leisurely ride, stopped at the bike shop out on 31 to look around.

I actually live just south of town on base. The bike shop is Extreme something. Used to be Max Pitts. I bought my helmet from them but their bike prices are way too high. PM me next time you're in the area and we'll get together.

I'm with State Farm. My nomad is $50 a month and my girlfriend's roadstar 650 is $30 a month. We live in the city though, so it's a bit higher. State Farm is just a broker for bike insurance. They farm it out (no pun intended) to someone else.
