synthetic oil change frequency

I have been using royal purple synthetic oil and changing it & filter every 5000 mi. It still looks pretty clean to me each change. How often is everyone else with synthetic changing oil?

I go with the manual: once a year or every 7500 whatever comes first. I know mobile 1 full syn (with the gold cap) says it is guarenteed for 15,000 miles. The only thing that might concern me going 15,000 miles is filter break down but I'm not a mechanic so I don't know if thats a legitimate concern.

Filter will last a long time. 7500 miles is fine for oil change (synthetics). I even know some clowns that just change the filter at 6000 and add a half quart of their synthetic back in and have never done a full oil change. I've never heard anything bad come from it and they've been doing this forever. I wouldn't feel real comfortable doing that but I now no longer have a paranoid attack about not changing my oil on a stringent schedule.

Thanks. I think I'll go to 7500 on the changes. I've put over 15,000 on in 10 months, so the once per year is out.

I've been holding to tradition.....using Mobile 1 and changing oil and filter every 3000 to 4000 miles. When I read the manual (7500 miles), I first thought it was a misprint.

I realize that I must change my thinking since changing every 3000 is probably a waste ....so, based off of what I've seen in this thread, I think I'll change every 6000 - 7000 miles.

Quick question.... since it has to do with oil changes, I'll ask it here. I bought my Nomad in August. I asked the machanic at the dealership if there were any problems with running synthetic (Mobil 1...as I run in my trucks). He said that I should wait till after 10000 miles to start running synthetics. This doesn't make a lot of sense to me, but since I was new to motorcycles, I didn't want to cause any problems. I have a buddy that has an '04 Nomad who said he's always run Royal Purple with no problems. I've got 3800 miles on my bike now...I guess my question is... would it be safe to switch over to Mobil 1 or should I follow the dealerships advice? Thanks in advance!!!

The dealer told me the same thing, jussmatt......but you can switch to synthetic anytime.

I went through breakin, then switched.

Changing sythetics at 3000 is fine. So is running premium in your Toyota Corolla. If you feel better doing it then that's what you should do. Most "feel good" mechanics maintain their vehicles that way and they are happy. Merry Xmas... BD

Just did the switch over to Mobil1 Vtwin and went w/ the Mobil1 Filter. I noticed the difference in the notorious "1st Gear Clunk" IMMEDIATELY!! It's NEVER shifted smoother. Thanks guys for the info. I'm enjoying the synthetic change already!
