Got dressed down by the boss because of the SW region!

It's all your fault, guys. We have to fill out a form every year giving 3 personal goals for the next year. For one of my goals, I put "I want to attend the South West regional meet in Kanab.". Hey! It said PERSONAL goals. Anyway, the boss (actually, the bosses bosses boss) called me in his office yesterday morning and said, "What does that have to do with _______ (my job)?". I said it was a personal goal and by the way, can I have two weeks off. Fortunately, he's a rider with a sense of humor so he chuckled, told me to come up with a work related goal, then turned down my request for leave. Unfortunately, due to staffing shortages, nobody can take much leave this year. Thanks alot, guys.

That's really tough Chris, hate to hear you won't be able to get the time off. On the other hand think of the money you will be making.

I guess it's better to make the money while I can but it certainly would have been more fun to spend the money and ride out there.

Sorry you were unable to get the time off. I guess I won't need to bring bananas to Kanab now.

At least not this year. If I was closer, I'd just call in sick or personal for a few days. Most of the way across the country, I'd feel the need for a couple weeks off. I understand his position (and might make the same decision if I were in his shoes) but it still sucks.

I have 4 weeks of paid vacation a year, but I have been working on a couple of large projects and haven't been able to use most of it for the past couple years because I couldn't be gone for very long. I take a day here and a day there to keep under the 160 hour cap so I don't stop accruing vacation. It was like pulling teeth to get the time off to go to Crescent City.

It's a shame to have time in the bank and your employer won't let you use it.

Sorry you won't be there Chris. I'll be bringing some Choice Tequila as well as a couple of my "regular" beverages. I'll make sure to declare a toast in your honor.

I've got about 500 vacation hours I could use if they'd give me the time off. That's 13+ weeks. It would be a hell of a trip.

Yup. Better to have too much job than not enough (or none at all). Unless I win the lottery, of course. Then I'm calling in "rich".

It's not that I couldn't get fired (God forbid) but my place of business will NEVER go under...EVER!

I'm in favor of a toast, but not enough to lie about it.
