Car tire?

I need to replace the rear tire on my 2005 Nomad. It has a Dunlop SP 5000 on now that I installed in July of 2011. It has just over 29000 miles on it and it is down to the wear bars. Just wondering what people are using now. Thanks for the help.

I've honestly never understood the appeal of using a "car tire" on a motorcycle. Just buy a motorcycle-specific tire. A car tire was never designed and made to work on a motorcycle regardless of what others might suggest.

Another Sp 5000 is what i did. IMO it works better than a mc tire on cheese grader bridges, painted lines, cracks, tar snakes, gravel back roads, dirt roads, stops better in a panic, and dulls the over quick steer the Nomad has at speed. Used to be all mc tires had a square profile.

I don't recall he asked your "opinion" He's already experienced running one and is asking other car tire users their brand.

Part of the appeal to me was the fact that it might piss others off.

I have over a Hundred Thousand smiles on Car Tires that I run on my (4) Motorcycles -- I will ever go back -- never had tread lamination and they have double the load rating so never blow out.

Besides Yellow Wolf has come out to our Darkside RideIns and now he swears they are faster and better handling then his old Motorcycle Tires -- not all Car Tires handle better but we know the ones that do.

He is using a Car Tire in this Video & Those are fast Sport Motorcycles he is riding with

Another Video and he had to slow down so fellow on Goldwing behind him could stay in sight

What would be a good size car tire make and size for the 1600 classics?

What is the rim size ? If it is the same as a Nomad rim, then so long as nothing else is different the Dunlop Sp 5000, and assorted other that size and or a goodyear in 205 wide. That 205 wide doesn't suit my back roads as there could be clearance issues if a pebble gets caught between the shaft tube and the side wall. That 205 has about the air gap of 3 credit cards. I have never really seen a classic up that close or ever worked on one yet.

What are you running on the front with your Dark Side rear? Going dark is big in the Triumph Rocket community, driven partially by the Metzler 240 rear that is stupidly expensive and notoriously short lived. I was about to give it a try when Bridgestone came out with a 240 in its Execdra Max.

My Canadian Gold Wing riding buddy has also tried it. I just sent him the link to that crazy video, asking him how it worked out for him.

I just installed new Excedra Maxes on my 2007 1600 but would definitely considering a DS rear the next time if I don't get at least 15K out of the the EM; and I won't hold my breath on that one.

And also, who do you get to install and balance the CT? The MC shops around here would laugh me right out the front door if I asked any of them to do it.

My wife and I use the General Evertrac. I have a 205 on my bike (1600 Nomad)and she has a 195 on hers (Vulcan 900). We have been coast to coast and love the ride!

The Dunlop SP5000 195/60-16 CT at Wally World is $175.

I think I paid $180 for the 180/65-16 Michelin Commander II I currently run. Guys on here are claiming 20K on these. So remind me what you are saving here ???
