VN1500 engine noise
Can't figure it out what causing ticking/rattle noise probably coming from first cylinder. Its not a cam tensioner, not a HLA, because I already inspected and adjust it but noise still exist. And ideas what else it could be?

Can't see your video, but other causes could be cold air solinoids under the right dog bowl or even a lose heat shield on the exhaust. Tell usd more about your bike, completely stock, or pipes and modded intake? Use a short piece of garden hose one end up to your ear and probe around the motor with the other end.
Welcome to the forum.

Posted wrong video link, just updated it. Vance & Hines pipes, no mod on intake. I don't think its exhaust, looks like something rattle inside the front cylinder . Could it be piston slap or bent rod?

How long have you owned the bike ? Is the noise recent or has it been there since you bought it ? Have the cam chain tensioner extenders been installed ? |

Easiest way to confirm or eliminate them as an issue is unscrew a spark plug tube, that is what they rattle on and there will be wear marks on the tube if that is the cause. Hard to say from listening to the video but I would put my money on a cam chain or a lifter not fully pumping up before a wrist pin or rod, the motors are pretty robust.

By adjusted I mean that I bleed air from HLA and reset camchain tensioner, and it's not even full extended, there is some room to go left, chain is pretty tight and there are no marks on a spark plug tube... Mileage is ~40000 Own this bike for a couple mouths, bought it as a project and after couple rides this sound appears.

Could it be an exhaust leak from around the front cylinder. The header pipe may not be sitting.

I'd try the exhaust, see if its loose and it sealing off. Sounds definitely metallic and tapping....
Have you deleted the coasters yet? Well, while you are there, I'd make the cold air solenoids go away, plug that mess off, put coasters on it. Then I'd pull the plugs outta the cylinder and look at them good. Just from a quick look and listen, if its not the exhaust loose/leaking, could be piston damage from preignition, maybe even a lifter completely collasped. Shouldn't be hard to nail down though if its something simple. Also sounds like it has the wrong oil in it....does your front pipe look really blue and discolored under the heatshield? Start with the simple things, these bikes are pretty bulletproof. I'd bet it something simple. If you'd dropped the motor enough to check out the hla, I'd move it over some and pull the front head just to check out things if the small stuff didn't check out. Also, look to make sure something isn't loose with the kacr

Hydraulic lash adjusters. Or hydraulic lifters. If they don't pump up properly sometimes due to dirt in the oil, gummy or the wrong oil, you get a metallic tapping in the valve train.

What year is the bike ? Does it have a plastic oil pump gear ?
You have had the engine apart to bleed air from the HLA's ? |

1999,no pog,Yes i had the top off the rear cylinder to put the camchain back on the cog.I never touched lifters, just took the cam out,put the chain back on,and closed it all up. Surely if there was a problem,ie an airlock, the oil light would be on.

What Rejay says. A couple of tricks that sometimes work is draining a bit of oil and adding some sea foam and run the motor for a while or changing the viscosity of the oil. I have dealt with them in the past with cars, but the one time I had this happen to my Nomad, it was after winter storage and one would not pump up. Idling and Reving the motor will probably not cure it. A 45 minute ride with lots of varying rpm cured mine.
