I use whatever the dealer puts in the crankcase. I believe it's Kawasaki 20W50.

My 4,000 mile oil change is coming up and it will be Mobil 1 V-Twin 20w/50. Very mild winters down here and blistering summers.

Synthetic vs Petroleum

my 600 mile oil change was done by the dealer, and they used the Yamaha 10W-40. After that I started using the Mobil 1 racing 4T 10W-40, and I couldn't belive the difference it made in how well the gears started shifting. I change my oil every 4000 miles, and up to the fall of '07 used the Mobil 1. A friend talked me into using the Amsoil. Since it was fall, I used the 10W-40. It improve the shifting and preformance over the Mobil 1. and in late spring, I changed to the Amsoil 20W-50 and am very pleased with it. But at last, the price has gone up to $12 a quart around here, so I'm thinking of trying the Royal Purple this fall ($9 a quart)

$10 quart at Auto Zone, ouch! However, it makes me feel better when I am riding in the Texas heat.

Synthetic vs Petroleum

Had the bike in for its Oil Change and requested Synthetic, when I got it back they had put in 10W40 Mineral Oil, whatever that is, also they recharged my K&N for the tune of $15.00 even though it had only about 250 miles on it. When I questioned everything they said they don't recommend Syn and any K&N filters. Good thing it was a hell of a storm coming up so I got the hell out of there. Anyway it was only $186.00 for the pleasure of talking to a technician (?) who wasn't born before I started riding.
