Heated Hand Grips

I did a search, found plenty on gloves, the chemical warmers and some on electric gloves. I was wondering if anyone on here uses heated hand grips and do they work to keep your whole hand warm and up to what outside temperature?

Here in Alabama gloves are sufficient for me. Not sure of any sites for heated hand grips. Do a Google or Yahoo search and see what you can find.

I have been doing a lot of "looking" at heated grips also... and I can tell you that an overwhelming number of the responses I received; and the blogs that I've checked out have suggested you are better off to go with heated gloves rather than the grips.

Now... as I said this is only opinions I have been gathering from many different sites I've ck'd out.

The only variance to the opinions were those who bought their bikes with heated grips already on them.

I added heaters to the inside of the handlebars. http://www.pollyheaters.com/ph400.htm They do work good, but when it's really cold they don't keep the outside portion of the hands warm. That is the down side.... When and if I ever do, I will for sure buy heated gloves over doing the heated grips again.

I have Symtec heaters on my Kury grips and they do take the chill out of the metal but are not that great as handwarmers. Since I installed mine they have come out wit Heat Demons which they say are considerably better. I have ridden snowmobiles with heated grips and they have worked quite well on most occasions.
I think the best thing is to keep your hands out of the wind as best possible.

+1 - A buddy has them on his Street Gide and I have ridden his bike, they are very comfortable (on the palm and palm side fingers). The outer (exposed part) of your gloved hands will be very cold. Very cold weather combined with rain and you will be better off with heated gloves. Put them both together and you have a great combination.

On my Nomad, I have it wired for Gerbing G3's which work
great but my Harley came with heated grips and they work
great too and without having to hook up wires and run them
thru the sleeves of you jacket to keep from rubbing a mark on
your tank. Then having to unplug and do something with the
wires hanging out of the jacket and on the bike.
Both work great. Heated grips are a lot more convenient. If I
had it to do again, I'd get heated grips for the Nomad instead
of the Gerbings.

Do the heated hand grips heat or help heat all around the fingers and gloves if they are insulated? I would agree with my preception of convient but when I am going down the freeway here in Birmingham area and it is 30-40 degrees my finger tips and back of my hands get real cold.

Tourmaster gauntlet gloves with silk liners did just fine in the low twenties. I was amazed at how much difference the silk liners made. Can manipulate things well and not too bulky. Bar chaps to keep the toes toasty. when my feet are cold and wet I quit.

Silk glove liners. Hmmmm, I forgot about hearing about those. Where is a good place to get glove liners?

Oh yeah, textile gloves are warmer than the leather.

As others have said, heated gloves are better when it really gets cold, and for reasonable comfort going 75 mph in low 30's or high 20's for any length of time you need something that blocks the wind. The stock Nomad puts your hands right out in the rushing air. At 75 mph, 32 degrees, the windchill based comparable temp is 12 degrees. One handed driving helps, alternating hands being on the bars and behind the windshield to warm up, but even that comes up short once the temps dip into the low 30's.

I get my silk liners at Cabelas, I also use silk sock liners.
I have a pair of Cabelas gortex mittens, they have a light glove inside so your fingers aren't against each other. I used them on Sunday morning with an air temp at 34*. I bit bulky but doable
