These guys are great. I'd love to see them in person.

When I was in boot camp in San Diego, we spent a couple of hours a day marching on the grinder (a huge asphalt area) learning rifle drill. It's hard to get it right, but when the whole platoon does, it's amazing. After I left boot camp, I never had the occasion to do it again.

CJ: I went to Navy Boot Camp in San Diego, we spent alot of time on the grinder and did alot of rifle drills too. When done properly it does look sharp.

Couple of hours a day practice, 6 days a week, then once around the grinder to finish up. Grinder in RTC was 1 sq mile, so once around was 4 miles.

There was a Marine Drill Team that came to Vermont about 30 years ago. They were awesome, but they haven't been back so far as I know. I guess they are not into audience participation. :)

Those Marines look really sharp.

I had a summer of fun at Navy boot camp at Great Lakes, Illinois back in '67. Don't recall the size of our grinder but I did a lot of marching and pushups on it. Never understood the need for all the precision marching. You would sure look funny doing that in battle.

Close order drill teaches discipline and automatic obedience to commands. Nothing they do in boot camp doesn't have a greater purpose.

Plus its a good way of physical conditioning, you are focused on other things besides all the muscles that are sore and hurting. :)

Absolutely amazing on how training and discipline can transform an ordinary young man into a soldier.

I had never seen the moves seen later in that taping. That was really impressive.

Love the discipline, coordination, and hand to eye control of these soldiers.

It's kind of amazing that I looked like that once.
I'm not as lean. I'm not as mean. But I'm still a Marine.

I would have liked to have been able to hear the cadence of the foot steps and the hands slapping the rifles. Part of the joy of watching the Silent Drill Team is listening to them at the same time. It will send chills up your spine.

For me whooping and hollering is almost disrespectful.
