Rear Wheel Off - UPDATE
OK! Heaven help me, I took the rear wheel off today and it went pretty well. I will take it in to have a new tire mounted.
What do I need to worry about? Pieces falling out? Damage to splines, gears, whatever they are called? What, specifically, kind of grease do I need to use when I put the wheel back on? And can I spin the valve stem so it faces up when the bike is on the kickstand? Thanks all for everything. It'll be like a new bike when I get this all done. [size=100:0i7ix3wb]Got the Avon Cobra mounted today and ordered a new muffler gasket so I can do the swingarm. I have started putting pieces back together, mounting the horn and cleaning, cleaning, cleaning.[/size:0i7ix3wb]

Rear Wheel Off - UPDATE
I have my valve stem turned to the high side. It is behind the rear rear disc, but I'll make a decision on the next tire change. No worries on the wheel removal and replacement. It is a good time to service the swing arm and propeller shaft with this off.

Rear Wheel Off - UPDATE
Once the wheel is off thats a big part to being near the swingarm service and driveshaft. Its not a lot more work to grease these items at this point. And check the wheel bearings while your there also.

I appreciate the advice as I have to replace my tires in the not too distant future. This really helps me have more confidence.

Rear Wheel Off - UPDATE
Do the swing arm service NOW!!!!!!!
Use a moly base grease on ALL splines. Use chassi or marine grade grease on the long bolt, 3 spacers, and swingarm bearings. Unless you have a goat belly get2 head pipe to head gaskets, 2 swing arm seals, 1 rear axel cotter pin. See my bit in the new Tech Forum below the garage under maint.

True, true, true. I fergot to mention this. I spent last evening with two hooker and recovering from a drunken stupor. You can do the swig arm AFFERR you git the parts in a matter of hours. This task is so easy that every 7,000 miles or whenever the urge hits me, I let my wife assume this duty under my ever present and watchful eye on my belove Nomad.

Rear Wheel Off - UPDATE
You crack me up Mr. Mapleman.
Although I have replaced the rear tire before I had some sweaty palms about approaching the swingarm service. HOWEVER, after reading your posts on the subject Mac I will be doing the swingarm, driveshaft, etc., when I replace the rear tire soon. Thanks bud!! I just have not decided whether to try the Darkside yet.
