Embarrassing moment to share
Ok I dumped the bike in the driveway. I was not able to pick it up by myself. So I thought. One foot on the floor boards ,one on the bag guards and one/two on the bars, leaning way back it lifted enough to turn it upright. A very uncomfortable position to be in but it worked. My ass was hanging out there and not a pretty picture. I had saw the trick on an off road bike site. I am here to say it worked well. Not the lift with your knees and push the seat up with your butt/back. Just thought I would post for those that need it and do not ever want to say or talk about it. Not looking for sharing, just want to help those out that may need a bit of help, and do not want to admit it. I hope I was of some help. 3rd time in 3 years, but the 2nd time my wife ran into me. No excuses. Just my facts. Never be to embarrassed to share.

Very good way to injure your back. We are much stronger pushing than pulling. Just FYI.

I was falling back, no pushing or pulling involved. Using my weight to pull. Picture my cute little ass falling back. Now try to sleep tonight after that picture.

I feel your pain. There are only two types of riders, those that have dropped their ride and those that are gonna. Maybe a third....those that won't admit to it.
No damage I hope? Me, I'm in the ist category x 3. Mind you, I haven't dropped it since my second hip replacement............Mike

I would assume that depends on a persons height and weight but if it works, great. I seen another method 20 years ago at the Americade rally that might be interesting to some. These big bikes don't go all the way down thanks to the crash bars so its not much of a lift to go up.
Put the bike in gear so it doesn't roll away on the way up. Put your butt on the seat, left hand on the rear crash bar ( assuming it went down on the left side) right hand on the handle bars. Using your legs only take baby steps backwards and the bike goes right up easily. Really small steps maybe the length of your shoe. |

I would like to think that my butt ain't big enough to pull that off.
The mirror, however, says otherwise ... Nothing to be embarrassed about. More than once, I "knew" that kickstand was all the way out. Engine guards are worth their weight in gold!

To be truthfull, there are a few videos that show you the correct way to pick up a bike after its fallen. Yea, the guys and gals on the vids are picking up Gold Wings.....as everyone knows, they don't fall over, they kinda wallow a little on their sides some and sit on their crashbars....Kinda like rolling a pentagon over on its side....
The Nomads feel top heavy anyway, thats why I lowered mine, makes it easier to handle and pickup when she falls... Its nots IF shes gonna go down, its just when.... And its up to you to handle the stress or the embarrassment after its done.... When I do it, I put on a stage play....and I shake my finger and fist at her cause she's being a 'Bad' Bagger! I embarrass her into submission....

If the bike is on the left or right side, 1st reach down and put the bike in gear if its in neutral. Once the bike is partly up you don't want it rolling.
If the bike is on the right side then extend the sidestand all the way out. Butt plated against the right side of the seat, grab the handlebar with you left hand, right hand to the grab rail or saddlebag guard/mount, then walk backwards in small steps as the bike goes up. Then once upright ease the bike over to the sidestand. If the bike is on the left side, only difference is the sidestand is up, and once the bike is upright use a boot heel to move the sidestand out to its fully extended position. Just need to balance the bike upright while you extend the sidestand out.

For a while I kept thinking I had kickstand out and didn't. Definitely wanted to find an easy way to lift the bike. I went to Pic-a-part, bought a $5 alum Audi jack. Folding, very small, about 3 lbs. Amazing how well it works.

This could be interesting, and maybe hurt some
Cool Idea, Never saw a Vaquero Pick it up off the ground Vid. I may just work ( and maybe I can't do it) out the logistics and do one. I will get some carpet from work and protect my little beasty as I lay it down. If it will not work I will call you
Need to get the wife to move her car first.
