Swingarm

I have only had the swing arm serviced 1 time sense I got the bike and that was at the local dealer and I don't think he serviced it as I can't get the pivot bolt loose I used a 22mm impact socket with a 2 foot long breaker bar and a 3 foot long cheater bar and can't move it almost pulled the bike off the rack. Anyone have any suggestions?

Try a large impact gun... if that doesn't work try heating it and melt some Bee's Wax (found at any candle shop) agaist the threads then use the big impact gun... other then that I don't know... use a nut splitter on it?

Get someone to hold the bike from falling over and you can apply the leverage on the socket more directly. A three foot bar should break it loose if you have things secure. And a bit of heat always helps in these situations as well.

Once you get it off go to "Gadgets" page and there are directions on how to install a grease fitting in the swingarm to keep the grease in the bearings.
I did the fix years ago and add a bit of grease each year.

The left hand end of the pivot bolt is where the threads are. Try using some penetrating oil on that end of the bolt and let it soak overnight. The bolt is supposed to be torqued to 97 ft-lbs.

P.S. Once you get it free be sure to rotate the bolt as you are sliding it out and also in. This will keep the needle bearings from being damaged (according to the service manual.)

Get the wheels on the ground and try again after soaking the driveshaft side where the threads are like yellow jackets said... Looks like the dealer didn't do it to me too. Because the dealer has no bloomin idea How To. Mine doesn't and that's no joke!

I know because i got to see how many seals they ordered, and they ordered none!

If i were you I would soak this down for days untill you get it busted loosed on the ground.

Bob great minds think alike just before I started this thread I put penetrating oil on both ends then just now after reading your post I went to the garage and put both bars on it and came down with all I had and she moved looked at every thing and it all looks good I will clean her up tomorrow and put her back together. Jim,
Make sure on re-install that your apply light grease to the threads of the swingarm bolt as per the service manual.

Mine are stainless steel 1/2 " and come with a 3/4" wench

I just had the same problem but I was the last one to service it. I rounded the bolt head & ended up at Sears & got a Lug nut extractor-& had to order a new bolt $$$ this time I used anti-seize > have a while before the next on though- new dunlop sp 5000 car tire back there now
