cobra fi2000 settings
Just installed Chucksters 2 plate intake system and a Cobra fi2000. Everything looks and fits great. Took the bike out today for a first real ride. I'm still getting some ping when I get on the throttle at highway speed.(2 up) I am using the factory setting of 3-5-0. I would appeciate any advice re: cobra settings.
Oh yeah, stock de-baffled pipes. Thanks in advance Login or Register to Remove Ads |

Vincent,
Ideally your going to need to decide which grade of fuel you'll be wanting to use as thats important to the tuning aspect of your motor. Once you decide on the fuel then with that fuel you'll need to turn the dials off and find a long grade where you can hold a steady throttle hand, say 5th gear @ 65mph, and hold that speed up the grade. You want the first pot adjusted so that your on the verge of ping. Keep turning it up until you can't get the motor to ping going up the hill at a steady throttle position. Going up that same hill in 5th the second pot would be adjusted so that you can roll on the throttle and not hear ping as well when you first crack the throttle at 65 mph. As for now leave the 3rd pot where it's at.

Vincent do as BD says, seems like you used clock settings which are not all that accurate bike to bike.

Vincent, worth while info to those that would help you:
what model bike example 2007 1600 what fuel example Shell 87 octane regular 10% alcohol and because I am a little shocked that you are getting ping at hwy speeds with those settings, are you running on the winter tank full with stabilizer in it? Run it out and get some fresh decent fuel if you are before you play with your settings.

I run premium fuel in the Nomad always. I have a friend who has access to a dyno and the know-how to run it, so I think I'll try that course of action.

I couldn't completely get rid of pinging with my Fi2000, but adding a 1.5K resistor on the air temp sensor did the trick. The only mods that would affect engine performance are Cobra true dual exhaust and K&N air filter. Before I istalled the resistor, I tried just about every combination of settings on the fuel module, and couldn't come up with one that made the engine run good and eliminate pinging. I now run the Fi2000 at 3.5.0. Oh yeah, I can now run 87 octane gas without pinging at air temps below 90 degrees. 90+ degrees, I run 89 octane.

Sorry, I did not intend to leave out important info. My bike is a 2007 1600. My intension was to do Chucksters intake mod and the Cobra fi2000 now and then Cobra true duels in about 8-10 months.($$$)

Vincent, I have an '08 Nomad and did the debaffle and the FI200R at the same time. Mine is set at 3-5-0 and the bike runs like a champ. I have no problem climbing a mountain in 5th with no pinging.
I thought the first pot was for idle speed. The second pot was for performance on the highway.

Vincent, I forgot to mention that you said FI2000 in your post. Our bike requires the FI2000R. Not sure what the FI2000 fits but our bike needs the one with the R.

I get down to Ocala area 2-3 times a year to visit dads only living brother so I will do the same when I head your way.
