NEW HAMPTON, N.H. (AP) — Police say a motorcyclist has been charged with topping speeds of 150 mph on a New Hampshire interstate highway.
State police say a trooper in an unmarked car spotted the motorcyclist on Interstate 93 in New Hampton on Saturday afternoon. The trooper says he clocked him driving 130 to 152 mph in a 65-mph zone while weaving in and out of traffic.
The officer called ahead to another trooper, who stopped the rider at a toll plaza, 45 miles south in Hooksett
Police say 44-year-old Edson Barbosa of Stoneham, Mass., has been charged with felony reckless conduct. A phone number in his name isn't listed.
Lt. John Marasco says he's never heard of anybody charged with going that fast.

It's normally too much of a liability to chase at those speeds, and they figure someone is going to die. It's still surprising they guy pulled over willingly... or apparently stayed in line at the toll plaza long enough for the long arm of the law to grab him

Those are suicide speeds on an open roadway. The amount of ground you cover per second at those speeds is astonishing. We all see how poorly people react to motorcycles traveling at the same speed, its even worse when they don't even have a chance to see you.

Most police agencies will not allow pursuits at those speeds, even though newer police cars can travel that fast. The risk isn't worth the potential reward. More often than not those end with a fatal collision or serious, serious injury.

Uh, yeah. 150mph = 220 feet per second!

Plus in order to catch somebody, you actually have to be moving faster than them, so there is the practical matter, that most police cruisers aren't really going to gain ground on somebody moving that fast. But, that's why they have friends.

I remember reading a couple or three years ago of a Montana Trooper clocking a motorcyclist at 189 mph. They stopped the guy miles down at a roadblock. Just a young guy unwinding on his Hyabusa.

In my younger crotch rocket days, i was yanked for 117 in a 70... Wide open highway. Luckily, he caught me after i topped out my bike at 175. He radioed me ahead and they grabbed me 14 miles down the road. They were cool with me since I stopped... Very professional officers just doing their job. Im thankful they didnt take me to jail as they could. But... Those days are long gone... I ride a couch now... No time for that crap!

HOOKSETT, N.H. —A motorcycle driver was arrested Saturday after police say they clocked him driving between 130 and 152 mph on Interstate 93.

Trooper Eric Shirley was on patrol in an unmarked cruiser Saturday when he saw a motorcycle in front of him speed up and start weaving in and out of traffic headed south in New Hampton.

Due to the speed, distance and traffic, Trooper Shirley did not try to chase the motorcycle, but got in touch with another trooper and described the 2012 Suzuki 1,399 cc cafe-style motorcycle.

Edson Jose Barbosa, 44, of Stoneham, Mass., was arrested while paying the toll in Hooksett. Barbosa was charged with felony reckless conduct. Barbosa was released on bail. He is due in court for arraignment on July 16, 2013.
