Ticking as the Engine Runs.
After my project of re-wiring my bike so that it doesn't burn wires, I have started the engine with one surprise. I don't remember the a TICKING sound the varies with the engine rpm. Is this normal? Is it because it is COLD out (3 Celsius)? Even after the engine is warm, it was still TICKING. Seemed like it was coming from the front of the engine.....
Is there something wrong?

Ticking as the Engine Runs.
Could the noise be the cold-idle solenoids?

Could be a lifter has drained down? Mine did that a couple of times - ended up doing the seafoam in the oil thing and (knock on wood) it hasn't done it since.

BR- The Nomad is notorious for different engine noises. One time I will start mine and it is quiet as a church mouse then the next time it could be clacking like a chicken. Most times it will go away after warming up but not always. Been that way since I bought it but I don't hesitate to jump on it and ride for a 3000 mile trip.

The cold-idle solenoids are behind the dog bowl on the right hand side, there are two of them, side by side. They are intended to allow the engine to idle smoothly when cold. Since they are electro-mechanical, they clatter when they are operating. I got rid of mine years ago, as part of improving the intake system on the bike. They are noisy, but it's normal. for them to be that way.

This happened to me once and it was because I had to little air in my shocks, pump them up to 30'ish and you should eliminate the ticking in the front of your engine.

I guess it raised the back of the bike up causing more oil to flow to the front of the engine.

I would do as cactusjack suggests. He is one fart smeller, er, I mean, one smart feller.
Don't listen to a word dennis49 or Ringadingh say they still think they are on the backrest vibration thread. ::)
