2010 Rally

Of course the discussion for next years South Eastern Rally was brought up on Saturday night and on the ride home on Sunday. With a year to plan, or a little bit more actually, I thought I would throw out the first pitch and see where it goes from there. Dates would probably be some time in early June, like we used last year and this year for the national rally.

A couple of ideas were mentioned:

1. Return to that basic area and do some different routes or areas. Maybe not specifically Helen, but it may not be a bad place because we would be doing a Friday and Saturday ride for this rally.

2. Going up to Virginia and the Shenandoah Valley or something like that. We could hit some historical sights and such as part of our ride agenda.

Just some food for thought. We will not be having a National Rally in 2010, so we can make this an arrive on Thursday, ride Friday, ride Saturday with a cookout/banquet on Saturday night, and leave Sunday thing. If you can't get there till Friday night or Saturday, that is cool too.

Mull it over and post your ideas and we will get some planning going. I'm ready to put a ticker in my signature already!

I like the Shenandoah Valley idea...let me throw out the Big Meadows area...they have a real neat lodge and a campground...

You NC, VA people can help out with the areas we should look at. I figure we have about 13 months to plan it all out and get it as close to perfect as we can.

That is cool. So we would have to go half way up Skyline to get there or is there a way to get to it without doing what would be a great primary ride? Just a thought.

Nah, you can go up I-81 and get there without traveling the whole Skyline Drive....or go up the east side several ways and jump on Skyline closer to the area.

That's good. I like that idea. I wonder how far out in advance we would have to make reservations for this. I bet they fill up fast.

They do fill up fast...I am not sure how far out you would have to go.

As a side note..the whole lodge is constructed of Chestnut which were abundant in the early 1900s (and before) in the area before the blight was introduced into North America pretty much wiping out the American Chestnut. they have a cool bar downstairs and serve white lightnin' liquor in their drinks if you want....lots of times have live bluegrass or mountain music....

It was the first weekend trip my Nomad ever went on ( 2 weeks old)...so it's a great spot to me.

LOL Mike. I'll hook you up with one of our kids here at school, seems we have some that bring it to take a little of the edge off of their day.

We know how kids have it sooooo rough ::)

When I was a kid.... never mind, we all have stories that would make the kids today cringe.

Like.. We didn't have cell phones, there was no texting, email, blog's or I'M's. Internet? what's that? We got out of line and the teachers would spank our azz, call our parents and get spanked again.

OK my little rant is over... what's the kids name I can call?

Hey All, I'm in. Lived in Winchester VA on Northern tip of Shen Valley. Tons of great riding. Skyline only a small part. Road south from Winchester area to Jefferson's home is great, trip to Radio Observatory has great roads both ways and a fun visit, Seneca Rocks is a must see and......ok I will take my pill and calm down.
Would be happy to be in on planning if you all want the help
