2010 Routes to the Rally

At the request of one of our fellow members (who shall remain nameless but is the name of a bird that migrates), this thread will be for listing how you intend to route your trip to SE Rally this spring.

Just put up your starting point, when you will be leaving and some of your thoughts on what route you will be taking.

I will be leaving on Saturday, June 12 and going mostly back roads up through GA toward Blairsville, GA to possibly hook up with Dixie. After that, it is on toward VA, arriving on Monday some time. That will make one hard day, 2 very easy days.

I'll be talking with Mike tonight. Nat and him are coming over and we will probably be discussing some of our upcoming trips. I'm sure he will be ok with whatever route we take.

2010 Routes to the Rally

My initial thought is to leave Blairsville early Sunday morning, taking back roads to west side of Asheville, NC, then possibly using RT19/23 north, (which is 4 lane, but really nice ride, over couple mountains and not too heavily traveled) towards Erwin, NC, then northeast to Mountain City, NC.
Won't make good time on this Erwin-Mt City stretch but pretty ride.

Then either northeast toward Wytheville, VA or north then due east on RT58 to Galax/Hinesville, VA area.

Monday, if from Galax/Hinesville area, couple options.....could jump on BRP for awhile, or RT221 north, both of which run N/E parallel to I81.

If time becomes a problem Sunday, could head north from Mountain City and jump on I81 to Wytheville, VA.
There are two cheap motels (ones a Super 8) in Wytheville with a steakhouse (and ice cold beverages) right across the parking lot.

2010 Routes to the Rally

Dick and everyone, What I would like to do is to meet up with you and everyone there in Blairesville Saturday. The last time I came up it was a Monsoon so I would like to see the area when I wasn't making a wake like a speed boat and white knuckling it! I think I came thru some really great area's but it was so bad I only remember the wet part! Then I'd hope ride up and back together. I have what ever amount of time everyone wants to take so my schedule is completely dependent on the rest of you.
But Dick, you and your wife were already very generous with your hospitality on our Blue Ridge ride. I don't want to impose. I'm not sure what kind of retail accommodations are close by but it would be easy for me to do that and if some one else is coming in and wants to share they can let me know.
Another option I have is for me to ride up to my Sister's place (she lives on the NC/SC border about 5 miles west of I-26 which means it's about a hour to the Asheville area from her house. I could easily stay there Saturday evening and just meet you all Sunday morning some where west of Asheville like it sounds like Goose would do? That would be very easy for me!
You folks tell me what will work easily for all of you and I will do it!

I just hope Dixie has a big yard and his neighbors don't mind having Clampet Mobiles out on the front lawn ;)

Dick has nice neighbors, well at least the one I met. Are you going to get Richard to join in Dick?

I assume Richard will go if his schedule permits.

And Coach....I have the big yard, about 3/4 of an acre of yard....and miles of woods......all you have to do to is find a level spot!! ;)

Sarge you are the man! WOW, what a plan, you think the way I do, just wish I was able to take off and go with you! I will pull-out from home Sunday morning and leave out with the Florida riders that are meeting-up with Dixie, but will probably go up to Dixie's house the evening before to see them in from there ride up. Or maybe ride down the road to hook-up with them on their way up.

Dixie can't remember the road we took up to Boone N.C. last time I went up that way but would really like to go by GrandFather Mtn. again on our way up, I guess I could at least head back that way on my way home?
