The British are coming!
Its holiday time and I am flying into Vegas on Saturday 20th Sept with my wife. Will be picking up a rental bike and heading up to St George to begin a two week ride. This will be our second trip to this area as we loved our first Utah/Colorado/Arizona ride. If anyone has suggestions for places to visit this time, please do. If anyone in the vacinity wants to meet up let me know. John.

I have a friend with a cabin in Deer Creek, Utah. Last weekend we spent Saturday riding from Deer Creek up Highway 14, through Hatch Utah on Highway 89 past Cedar Breaks, through Bryce Canyon, to Highway 12 through Escalante, up to Koosharem, down Highway 62 to Highway 89 and back behind Panguich Lake to Deer Creek. What an amazing ride! There is no where in the world that I know of, with such a diversity of landscapes in such a relatively small area! Stunning! We are planning to make it an annual ride. Just be mindful of your fuel. A lot of those little towns have nowhere to gas up. Two of us ran out of fuel on the ride. I didn't mind. Couldn't have picked a better place to take a break!

SMBKE, we did almost the same ride as you described, fantastic, then continued on the 95 to the 261 and Mexican Hat before visiting Monument Valley. I will definately be revisiting the route.

Not knowing your route from last time the highlights start at Zion N.P. just up the road from St. George. Next in no particular order are Bryce N.P., The Arches N.P., North Rim, Grand Canyon, Page, AZ area (Horseshoe Bend, Upper & lower Antelope Canyon, Monument Valley. The list can go on and on. If you're going to hit allot of National Parks an Annual N.P. Pass will save you some money.
Most of these Parks can be reached by the roads less traveled. However, your trip to St. George will face two lane traffic on I-15 for a bit of the way. A couple weeks ago a flash flood pretty much floated a good section of the Interstate away. The trucks can only use the two lane setup at night so you will not have to deal with then on the long up-grades. In the daytime they have to take a 50 mile detour. I wish I could ride with you but already made plans for a Fall colors "tour" the end of October into November. If you don't have a great time it's your own fault. Safe travels.

Yes..."Color Canyons Country" of South West Utah is hard to beat..just above St George is Snow Canyon..short, and scenic (where John Wayne was filmed in a couple movie)..and off the side of the hiway north.. out of St George , is a spot where Robert Redford and Jane Fonda shot a couple scenes in "The Electric Horseman" !
But the scenic attractions are the Big Reward...Enjoy ! OH YEA..Addendum....remember, Us Yank's Drive On the Wrong Side Of the Road..and there are lots of wildlife crossing also !..I dont recommend biking at night ! ..

Be mindful of the weather forecasts, this late in the year it can and does snow in the higher elevations of Utah.
One ride I would suggest would be to go to Cedar City, about 40 miles north of St. George and take UT-14 east. It will take you up by Cedar Breaks National Monument near the 10,000 ft summit, then enjoy the ride down the backside and be sure to visit Navajo Lake (you can't miss it). 14 eventually tees into US-89 at Duck Creek. It is a very nice, scenic ride especially this time of year with the leaves turning color. Turn left on 89 to go towards Bryce Canyon or turn right to go to Kanab.

If you make it to Colorado, Durango to Ouray is AMAZING, above timberline, water falls, twisties and old mines. Best in Colorado and this time of year with fall colors... WOW!
