Sometimes Ebay ROCKS

I scored brand-new-in-the-box:
Nomad 1500 fire and steel passenger backrest
Nomad 1500 backrest mounting plates
Arrived yesterday. Beautiful.

Price - 300? 250? 150? 100?

No - a mere 68 clams.

Nice find! It takes a lot of patients to buy things on ebay, but it can pay off for sure!

Totally agree! I picked up both the upper and lower bag rails for my bike for under $200, brand new. I also picked up a set of stock seats, front and back for $75. I set up a default search on ebay just for my 1600 and peruse it regularly looking for a good deal.

If you watch you can sometimes get a good buy. Ive hesitated on a couple items in the past and then afterwards have had to pay more since the prices have gone up on the same item.
What Ive noticed the last while on Ebay is some of the shipping rates are outrageously high on the bike parts.

I know thats what they're trying to do, but the "buy it now" price and the shipping in which $60 - $100.00 is common is too high for a lot of the items now, unless you really need the part.

Ebay has a lot of great deals, but there's also some scammers on there.

I shop eBay constantly. for the bike when I first got it, now mostly for camera gear. don't forget to look for miss-spellings also. I picked up a jardene passenger back rest and luggage rack for my 750 Vulcan for 19 bucks cause she listed it under "luggage" so it was mixed in with all the Samsonite and stuff. as far as high shipping, they police that, I've turned a few in. a new computer for 20 bucks and 800 shipping. they don't pay eBay a cut on shipping fees!

That makes sense Borto, I now understand why they try to do that. I presume if you are a high volume Ebay seller, that saving money on listing and selling fees will really add up after a while.

Congrats on the find! There are still deals to be had!

Ebay isn't what it used to be. There are still folks that sell items the auction way and ship for the actual shipping costs. Sometimes its the thrill of the hunt to get the killer deal. You just need to be aware of the bottom line cost before you buy. Too many times now it is as good a deal to buy from a brick and mortar store locally than to buy on Ebay.

For us Canadians the other big factor besides the shipping cost is who do they ship with? If it's either FedEx or UPS you're likely to get nailed with some ridiculous "customs brokerage fees". I can understand paying customs if they are applicable on the item but there have been times when I've paid $25 or more for a brokerage fee on an item that was less than $10 value!

For some reason it seems that if it is shipped via USPS/Canada Post the brokerage fees aren't tacked on.

Sometimes the brokerage is tacked on with USPS but most times it slips through. Ive never been dinged yet by Canada post but my brother and daughter both have.
With UPS or Fedex, you will absolutely without fail get dinged for brokerage and taxes. I know that personally.
