Chaps

I've had a couple pair of chaps and have gone cheap in the past. Looking at upgrading and getting a really nice set. Anyone have any suggestions and why you would suggest them. This is going to be the last set I ever buy so I really want quality.

These are very good quality with lining. I've had them for about 8 years and no problems or wear.

They fit great, quality is excellent, and I love the "jean style" front pockets. They almost look like leather pants when you have them on. The quality and craftsmanship is as good as the chaps I've looked at at the HD dealership.

I actually went with the full leather pants......X-element from leatherup.com.......they have full length zippers and are as easy as chaps to put on and offer full protection, rather than having some areas open

I really like those also.


I was always liking the look of leather but I got a new performance riding jacket (ballistic nylon) last year. This stuff is amazing, ultra light, comfy, cool when you want (lots of vents), warm when needed. I'm a change rider!

My next pair will be something like those ( they are offered in the ballistic nylon) or I'm thinking of going with a a pair of Ballistic nylon pants.

I have a pair of lined leather jeans now, I prefer them to the chaps as well. The nylon products are durable and comfortable though, I wear them very early and late in the season here.

Didn't know anyone else made the full length leggings. I made a pair for a friend of mine a couple of years ago and he says they are really comfortable and less restricting than regular chaps.

What was wrong with the chaps that you have already purchased? Most chaps --to my untrained eye-- seem to be similar. Just make sure they are made out of leather and have a nice zipper.

I bought my from a friend for $15 so I'm not too much help.

Dennis, if you were closer to Mesa AZ, I'd send you over to the leather shop where I bought mine. They have a website http://joetasleather.com/ I have purchased chaps and a couple jackets from them and they are very nice quality. Personally, I wouldn't buy stuff like that online. I like to try the fit and check the quality. I'd stay away from the discount vendors like Jafrum, etc.

I don't know if there are any leather shops in the St. George area, but you're 2 hours from Vegas. I'm sure you'd find some there. Might be worth a drive.

I have to agree with Scoot...Fox Creek Leather will last a life time. You'll pay for it but, you'll never have a complaint...If you do, they'll fix it, no questions asked.

Another place to check would be Vanson leathers. Again, you'll pay but, quality costs.

Go for either of these two places. You won't go wrong. You have to be careful of the ones that have cheaper stuff. It's usually coming in from Pakistan. The leather might not be an issue but, the construction won't last and won't protect you in a crash. They're usually single stitched and will come apart in the most minor of crashes.

The Fox Creek and Vanson stuff will stay together. At most, you'll have some scuffs. And, they'll repair their stuff for minimal cost.

Just my opinion though...

I wear chaps I made myself so they fit perfect and are of course thicker than most that you find on the market. If I were going to try to buy a pair, I wold go to a local leatherworker who knows how to make chaps and have some made. A basic pair would probably not cost much more than what you see onlline and they would fit well.
