Who's Home From the Hill Country?
Got home at about 3:00 pm. No problems, put on 1062 miles and had a super time. Met some great people. Stayed dry. Great test for my newly installed C/T and all I can say is it is awesome.
Trip thanks for putting this week together you did an excellent job. |

Who's Home From the Hill Country?
We arrived home at 7:40. Hit a couple of light showers. One in the Houston area to go along with the 30 minute traffic delay and another in Jennings, LA which is about 40 miles West of Lafayette. Just enough to dampen the shin area of my pants a little. The only bad part about the trip home was the 25 - 30 mph cross wind out of the South that beat us up from just East of San Antonio to Morgan City, LA which is 26 miles from my home. My brain is rattled more than what it was already. Total mileage for us was 1,831. 633 going (11 1/2 hours) and 631 coming back home(12 hours and 5 minutes). 567 miles riding in that spectacular Texas Hill Country. It was great being with the old friends and meeting the new ones. A great time with a great bunch of folks. Trip, thanks for putting this together for us. The rides, food, and the cabin were right on. Hope the rest made it home safely. Thanks again everyone.
Mitch

Who's Home From the Hill Country?
So Mitch you decided to ride straight thru again? you got more stamina than me. I made it home about 4:00, ran into a couple light sprinkles, barely got wet though. It was great meeting and riding with everyone, and nice to put faces with screen names. It was my first time to ride in the Leakey area. Put about 1130 miles on the Nomad and just about finished off my rear tire. Thanks also to Trip for organizing the ride and being our guide

Who's Home From the Hill Country?
I pulled up to a Hampton Inn at the Jennings, LA exit off of I-10. My wife said let's keep going so we kept going. We're both glad we pushed on.

Who's Home From the Hill Country?
I want to thank Trip for his patience and the work he did to put this together. Chicken Earl's: what a memory. We really enjoyed the company of the group; great folks all around. I had a great time and the Missus had an even better time. She wants to do it again! We were the low mileage in the group at 831, but when it is only 120 miles each way to get there.....;D I guess that is why we got soaked! Pretty much drizzled or rained from Utopia to home. Hope to hear from the rest shortly.

Who's Home From the Hill Country?
I just read where Bill and Cheryl had a wreck in Austin on the way home, they were not hurt real bad but I guess the trailer flipped over on top of the bike and the Nomad was destroyed. Glad they were all right and hope every one else makes it home OK.

For those that haven't seen the main board,
Bill and Cheryl were in a wreck in Austin but are OK. See main board for details. They are staying with their son in Austin.

Who's Home From the Hill Country?
I just read about Bill and Cheryl's wreck in Austin. I'm glad they're OK. It's ashame that their RV and Nomad is gone, but at least those can be replaced.
I left Leakey at about 7:30am yesterday (saw your smiling face and waving hand as I left, ndbigfish)....although it looked like the bottom was about to drop out, I rode 337, and 16 back up to Kerrville, through Fredericksburg and up to Marble Falls before it started raining. I stopped in Marble Falls, put on the rain gear and made it through Cedar Park, Round Rock and to Hutto. There I stopped for lunch and took the gear off. I made it home to Lindale about 5pm. I realize that Leakey and the whole Hill Country area may not be for everyone, but I really appreciate your attendance and kind words about the area. And also, your patience was appreciated. I had a very good time and I'm glad I got to see some old KawaNOW friends and meet some new KawaNOW friends. GPS is showing I rode a total of 1,351 miles. 408 to Leakey, 408 back...which means we roughly rode about 535 miles while there. If anyone ever asks, you can proudly say that you have ridden the best roads in Texas.... RR337, RR336 and RR335... commonly referred to as The Twisted Sisters. I'll try to get some pics posted for all to see.

Who's Home From the Hill Country?
Glad everyone made it home safely. We are going to be ok. We are going to stay with our son in Austin for a couple of days.
We had dropped the Dually and RV off in Burnett at a RV park. So its fine and we have a way home. Cheryl and I were driving to our son's house in Austin. We were at 183 and Lakeline Dr when the lady ran the red light. We were in the van pulling the trailer and Nomad. The air bags deployed and we were lucky to only have minor injuries. The cops and wrecker drivers said our vehicles were a total loss. Its a shame, cause I know the van, bike trailer, and Nomad won't be worth in insurance, what they were worth to us. Thanks for all the concern. We can thank GOD the wreck happened to us in the van. We enjoyed the hill country and friends. Glad everyone is home safe. |
