Question / wheel bearings

The thread in which the wheel bearings went south at 22,000 got me wondering.
How many of you have had to replace your wheel bearings and at what mileage?
I have 54,500 miles on my 07 and wonder if I should get them changed.

Yes, by all means you should. Take pictures and talk us through the process. As I don't think it has been done before.

Now that's funny right there. I do oil and filter, install lights, etc.
I do not do mechanical work. It would be a dealer thing if I get it done. Hell, I'm having the dealer do my coolant and brake fluid. ::)

Question / wheel bearings

i have had over 75 bikes and never ever replaced a set of wheel bearings. usually they will last longer than the bike, unless they are under lubed from the factory or a very inferior grade. ball bearings come in different grades. the chinese have entered into the ball bearing reverse engineering business years back. some are very high quality, some aren't. here's an interesting question that most folks don't know the answer to. how do they get the balls in a ball bearing? one other question is how do they get the hole in a small hypodermic needle for such a cheap price. i know i have to much time on my hands. if you can answer these two questions you are fairly intellegent with a good engineering mind or you cheated and looked it up. lol. bill

Question / wheel bearings

The ball bearings are put on the center piece and the outer ring is rolled over the balls. As for the needle, no idea

Question / wheel bearings

The needles are made by a extruding process that pushes the metal over a center mandrel.

don't deal in bikes, i'm just old. i started riding in the 50's and have had many street bikes and off road bikes including cushman scooters. loved bikes all my life. i live eat and sleep motorcycles. i build custom bikes and scooters for myself. i'm in the process of building and restoring a honda powered 58 cushman pacemaker.
