Post rally checkin in

Lorna and I also made it home safe and sound. It was a good day except for the last 15 minutes as we got pounded hard by rain and hail.

The rally week was most enjoyable. The old friends we saw and the new friends we met made the rally an unforgettable experience.

We made it to Nakusp in 85 degree sunny weather....but by dinner it turned into a wicked lightning and thunder show that knocked out the power in town for about 45 minutes...! Hopefully it passes over and will be clear again in the morning! Thanks for the kind words...Tricia and I really enjoyed ourselves as well...and truly enjoyed seeing old friends and meeting new ones...!!

Made it home yesterday. About 2100 miles for the whole trip. I was one of the "low milers".

We had a leisurely day with no rain. Rode to Banff for breakfast then followed 1a along the river to Cochrane, then back roads to Edmonton. I see on the news that hwy 1 was closed near Banff due to a mudslide at 2:30 pm but we missed that.
Thanks to Kris and Rick for everything, especially the great weather for the rally. We had a great time riding and meeting new friends.
BTW, I found the waiver and ICE forms that we carefully filled out and packed a couple weeks ago, what do I do with them now?

I made it home before 1 today. had to spend the night in Butte, Mt last night after I helped a fellow biker get his ride off the freeway. It was worth it. I hope they were able to get their bike repaired and back on the road.

all in all it was a great rally in Canmore. Awesome views everywhere you look. Great roads and great people. I had a blast.

CanuckRider and I left from Calgary catching up with Kris and the group heading west near Golden. I guess we missed the mudslide. We stayed the night in Salmon Arm and went to the DreamCycles Museum about 15 minutes west. This just opened in May and is a great stop. There are too many very old bikes to mention but worth a stop for that and breakfast at their Sprockets Cafe.

Thanks Kris and Rick for a great rally. As Idaho said, great riding and great people. It was a great time.

I left Al at the museum and headed west. Outside of Kamloops going south the rear cylinder head pipe went with a bang. I limped in to Merritt to a Canadian Tire shop and checked with a small mirror to find it was badly cracked in 2 places. I had heard of the Vance and Hines problem so I guess it was my turn. I did a repair with a coke can, mechanics wire and some muffler repair tape. I made it home but my ears are still ringing. Just another story to tell.

Char and I we the last stragglers to depart from the Rocky Mountain lodge as we were only headed for Calgary. Had a great visit with my Aunt and Cousins.

After much debate about what route to take home we decided to keep it simple and based on the extended forecasts we decided to forgo Jasper for another trip.

This morning we headed out and rode through Drumheller and checked out the HooDoo's before making our way to Medicine Hat. Tomorrow we are going to make our way to Regina before completing our journey with a ride through the Qu'Appelle valley on the way home.









And now we are facing a few days of this to get home.

Excellent Rally, great job planning it from our two west coast leaders, Kris and Ricky. The dinner and rides worked out really good. This trip rates up there with my top rides. Awesome scenery in the Canadian Rockys!

It was good seeing people that I met on the Crescent City Rally, and meeting new people from this rally. A great bunch of guys and gals... well they do ride Vulcans

I made it home today, got to try out my new rain gear about Cour D Alene, ID and hit a real downpour going through Spokane, WA. But I cant complain, the weather for the rally was perfect and I had a dry ride going up.

I noticed that all the road signs up there that has the pictures of the animals isn't all shot full of holes like southern Oregon.. lol. Great bunch of guys up there!.

2,340 miles total (3,766 Kilometers). Three days going up and 2 coming home.

Tricia and I made it home safe (barely...more in a minute)....around 2:00pm today. We left Nakusp yesterday headed for Steve's cabin (think resort home) in Oroville, WA...just south of Osoyoos, BC, where we crossed back into the US. Had a fantastic dinner with Steve, Bourke, and Mike and Michelle. What a great layover...and Steve was kind enough to get up early and make us all breakfast before we departed!

Tricia and I were the first to leave about 7:45 am....anxious for the last stretch home. Got fuel in Omak, then made the run over Loup Loup Pass into Twisp. There, we turned west on Hwy 20 toward Winthrop and was cruising along about 55 mph when out of the left corner of my eye I see a huge deer come out of nowhere, crossing the road right in front of me from left to right. I had absolutely zero time to react, but what reaction I did have came quick.

I was like a Nascar driver who avoids trouble by driving towards it, hoping it will move before he gets there..... As the deer crossed the center line moving left to right, I only had time to tap the brake and lean the bike left onto that same centerline, hoping it would not be there when I passed. It kept moving (thank God)....but I passed her so close at 50 mph....that my right highway peg missed taking out her hind legs by 12" or less...!! It was as close to tragedy as you can imagine....and Tricia never even saw it until I passed the thing. Had it been 1/4 of a second later in crossing, I would have hit it broadside at 55 mph. I can only imagine how that would have ended. It happened so fast it was almost like a ghost...and I feel as fortunate as Lomax in coming away from that in one piece.....

We stopped in Winthrop to change our shorts...and parked right next to another Nomad. A real nice guy named Alexander from Vancouver, BC. I gave him a card and he gave me his...so I'll try to get him hooked up with Rickyboy! Anyways....we had a great week and really enjoyed meeting old friends and new...and riding up and back with a really fun group. That one will be hard to top for more reasons than the sheer beauty...and I will be busy sorting through all the pics very soon!

Michelle & I made it home safe and sound around 5 pm local time. Kris & Ricky, you guys put on a great show. We will back for more. Met a lot of wonderful people and hope to see you all again soon. Thanks to Steve for the great layover at the cottage and breakfast to boot. Kris, glad you made it pass the deer. Michelle and I were about 45min -1 hour behind you and glad we didn't have to come across you in the road. Once again, thanks to all for making our 1st Rally a memorable one and look forward to all the pix that everyone took. Mike & Michelle
