Cam chain tensioner extenders installed!!

I just finished installing the extenders on my cam chain tensioners. I was a bit nervous, but it was a pretty straight forward job, thanks to all of the great info on here and gadgets site.

Once it was all back together, I was a bit nervous to fire it up the first time, afraid that if I had done something wrong, it might be the end of my motor, but she fired right up, and ran perfectly.

Thanks again to to Gadget and Chuckster, and everyone on this board who is so helpful.

CoachA; bring the smore-mobile up here and we can do your extenders at my place. I would be glad to help you.

My bikes got 27K on it so will probably need to do mine with in the year. I sure would like to do a practice run thru on yours before I have to do mine. :-/

Just kidding bud. ;) Actually will probably do mine in summer. Because I have all theLH intake and crossover tube removed looks to be pretty easy for me. If you want to "observe" you are welcome. Just needs to be above 70 before I tackle it.

Above 70? That might not happen around here till about July at this rate. I may just take you up on that Ross. I have the extenders here and Chuckster wanted me to fly him down in my personal jet but fuel prices are too high right now so the Lear is parked for awhile.

Yeah, mine were both at the end of their travel, I've just been waiting for a warmer day to tackle the job. Like you said, now its done, and I don't have to worry about them any more.

Seeing how the dealer doesn't install extenders, do they replace the chains covered with extended warranty when the tensioners are fully extended? I think I would prefer installing the extenders myself over them pulling my engine. I'd bet that the 4 yrs of extended warranty would be void if a problem developed related to the cam chains with extenders installed by the owner. Just thinking ahead.

Congrats phred, now, pack your tools and hit the road to take care of the rest of us fraidy cats. You could get rich.

Well, you might make enough for gas money and a burger.

Just do it out of the goodness of your heart and hope for tips.

Here in Canada the extenders are a dealer item. I don't think warranty would be a problem. These motors are next to bulletproof anyways.

I don't know, obviously the cam chains are designed to stretch, or they wouldn't need tensioners in the first place. It might be a maintenance item, not a warranty item.

Hey phred, I have a question now that you have installed these things. Conventional wisdom seems to hold that our engines get even noisier when the cam chains have slop in them that needs to be taken up with the new extenders. Now that you have installed the extenders do you think your engine has quieted down any?

I can tell you mine quieted down considerably after installing cam chain extenders.
