Swing Arm Bolt
I want to say that it is a M22. I just did the swing arm grease, so I am going off memory. Good luck drilling it, because it is a long bolt.

Swing Arm Bolt
Just so happens, I have a spare swing arm pivot bolt out in the shed, I went and measured the diameter of the bolt, and it is .784" (or 19.9mm). Hope this helps.

Take a look at the microfiche at www.ronayers.com It might help you to see what you are dealing with. You might have to weld something to the end of the bolt/shaft and use a slide hammer ?

If you could cut a groove on the face of the hex, an impact (hammer type) screw driver might break it loose after dousing it with a good spray penetrating oil such as Aerokroil. I've attached a Harbor Freight link showing what I'm talking about. We have one here at the plant that is bigger than the one shown. It generates alot of torque and would maybe work for you. Sure would beat trying to drill that long bolt out.

Ok Guys thanks for your help, just got to get on with the drilling. One more question does anybody have the spec/part no for the needle rollers and seals? Thanks again.

You may be able to weld a large nut onto the head of the bolt you rounded off, and then heat the other end of the bolt where the threads are holding it near the driveshaft. With an impact gun or a long johnson bar you should be able to break it loose.

Swing Arm Bolt
Hi Ringadingh,
the bolt is not siezed in the thread, it's siezed in the roller bearings because if I lift the swing arm up and push it down again the bolt is stationary so it must be siezed in the bearings. regards Pete |

Wow I wouldn't ever try to drill that bolt out. The bolt is way too long and large to drill straight. I would definitely try to weld to the end and use a lide hammer or an impact with a bolt welded to the end.
I had to use my impact and a wedge to get mine to push out. It had a fair amount or rust on it that was making it tough as heck to remove. Good luck with whatever you choose!!!!! |

Okay, if you are going to have to do the swing arm stuff anyways - maybe drill the centre sleeve where you would be putting the grease zerk anyways ( as per Gadgets info)- then fill the damn thing up with as much penetrating oil as possible - maybe it will come loose? The bolts should turn with the swingarm if memory serves correct?
