Kris,
I know you rode and loved HWY 93 in Idaho. What stretch did you ride? Thanks

I rode it northbound from Arco, ID to Missoula, MT. It is like three different rides.... From Arco to Challis, ID is largely remote ranch land sandwiched between two gorgeous mountain ranges. From Challis to Salmon, ID the road is easy, rolling 45-50 mph twisties along the Salmon River....and from Salmon to Missoula you climb up over the Continental Divide over Lost Trail Pass (of which the summit is the location of my lower left sig pic). As you head toward Missoula there is some nice riding along the Bitteroot River before it finally gets kind of boring for the last 40 miles into Missoula. It is a fantastic ride that you will enjoy immensely... ! There is lots of Lewis and Clark history in that area as they made their way west through that very stretch along the Salmon River/Lost Trail Pass/Bitteroot River. There are lots of pullouts with historical signs that are all worth stopping at! I started from Pocatello, ID and made the run to Missoula in one day no problem...roughly 350 miles I think. Let me know when you go....I might just run it again with you.... ;)!

I was curious, so I went to google maps and looked at this highway. Looks like quite a route. I have a lot of family in Idaho, both eastern (Idaho Falls) and western (Boise area), but I have never been in the central part of the state. I think I'd like to ride that sometime.

That is definitely beautiful country. Been along that entire road in a cage but never on the bike. I need to do it some day.

I have done that same ride a few times. Truly a great ride. Another variation is to leave Boise and ride Hwy 21 to Idaho City, Lowman (lots of great, tight twisties) Stanley, Challis, Salmon and Missoula. On the return, take Hwy 12 over Lolo Pass, followed by a leisurely, curvy ride down Hwy 12 to Lewiston. In fact, this coming summer may be the last time to ride Hwy 12 in its current state. Some oil and mining companies are pressuring the state to straighten and widen Hwy 12 so they can transport what they call "super loads" on Hwy 12 when they relocate sites. That will absolutely ruin what is now billed as one of the premier motorcycling roads in America today.
Greg, pick my up on your way through Boise. Greg |

Good Info. I am looking for suggestions as I go west to the WCR. Being retired I plan to make the trip there a back one long and enjoyable trip.

One thing Kris left out is that before riding this area you should stop and buy some facial tissues as you will need them to wipe the drool off your mug as you motor along, either that or leave a wet trail down the road.... ;) Me? I left a trail several times...

Or if the ground starts shaking, you might have another use for those tissues....
