Worst Roads
OK...I think California has not only some of the worst drivers I've ever encountered, but some of the worst quality roads I've ever rode on. I look forward to going out of state just to be on good pavement.
Whats your opinion on where the worst roads are! What do you think?

Not sure, but I'd have to believe Illinois is near the top in the BAD ROAD list!

When I drive to SoCal on I-10, the road is nice and smooth and well-maintained in AZ, and as soon as you cross the river at Blythe, you hit potholes and rough patches.
Utah is bad, too. When I first moved here and told people I was from Utah, the first thing out of their mouth was "how many wives do you have?", the second thing was "Utah has the worst roads in the country".

I have been through many roads in the US, and so far, I'd have to say the roads in Mexico are by far the worst to ride a motorcycle on. If you are on the toll booth roads, mmmm...not quite so bad, but when you get off them, its down right nasty. And their road repair sucks just as much.

I think concrete roads are the worst. I commute on RT680 in the East Bay area. It's a concrete road and it's a mess with rain grooves, potholes, expansion joints. Bad enough to deal with the arrogant, rude, & nasty Cali-Cagers (California car drivers) but then to have to constantly scan for road hazards too.

Seems as if there are more bad roads than good. They keep building new roads and can't maintain the ones we have.

I always thought southern Louisiana had the worst roads because of subsidence. Concrete paved roads are the worst because of the uneven panel joints. Some of our roads will beat any quality cage to pieces. Rough on the buns when riding a motorcycle. The worst major corridor here is I-10 from New Orleans East to the Mississippi border. Amazing how much better I-10 is after crossing the Pearl River eastbound.

I'll vote for I-294 around Chicago and all of I-20 threw Louisiana. I think I'd also throw in I-35 the length of it from Minnesota to Southern Texas.

I agree with Terrebonne - I10 has got to be the worst. Your kidneys will be up in your chest before you can get thru the state. I have lived in TX for 25 years and every year I would drive home to Western N.C.. I do believe La. has been working on that damned road for the entire 25 years.

I also agree with terrebonne. I have been to 42 of the 50 states and think that the gulf states, especially Mississippi and Louisiana, have the worst roads.
I understand why Cali drivers think they have the worst, it's because Cali and Texas probably have the most miles of roadway. I just rode down Hwy 101 a couple weeks ago, and they were replacing roadway North of Crescent City...I think that CA as a whole is on top of repairs a lot faster than OR. Washington (outside of Seattle's unbelievable congestion) probably has some of the best surfaces. They have poured a ton of money into I-5 and other state roads. |
