XM Radio By Kawasaki
I didn't like giving up the space in the saddle bag required by the Kawasaki unit.
I'm running XM radio/weather/traffic into my Garmin Zumo 550 GPS and then the audio through a J&M Intergrator IV intercomm with FM. This way I have both FM for local station and XM in the rural areas with no FM. This setup was about the same total cost as the Kawasaki unit. Mine was around $1300 (Including GPS). Add another $100 for the Midland CB from J&M. The Intercom is between the CB and cup holder. See pic below |

XM Radio By Kawasaki
I haven't heard of anyone buying the Kawasaki radio/xm/cb unit, although I am sure *someone* has. I just hope that Kawasaki doesn't take the lack of sales as lack of interest ...everyone is interested, but the dang thing is just way too expensive and takes up way too much room in the left saddlebag.
I used to have the same kind of setup as txwcdancer ...Integratr IV, Midland CB, Zumo 550 ...and it all worked pretty well together. I had the radio units in a bag that set right between the windshield and the handlebar risers, one power cord coming out that plugged directly to the bike battery using a permanently mounted power lead so that I could just disconnect the whole shebang from the bike and carry it with me. It was a slight pain, but I kind of miss it ...had all the volumes and squelch right up front (the Integratr IV doesn't have the ability to monitor noise and adjust the volume accordingly). Right now, I have the Autocom SuperPro unit, same Zumo 550, same Midland CB. The CB and Autocom is permanently mounted in the trunk. The whole thing works very well together, although I have an issue with engine/alternator noise coming through. Been adding filters to get rid of it. I've been considering getting the xm antenna that comes with the Zumo 550 for XM. The only thing I have on the handlebars is the PTT switch and the Zumo. The only downside to my set up is that all the volumes, cb channels and squelch are in the trunk now, but I haven't found the need to mess with them much. Once they are set, it's all pretty much hands off. |

I talked to the guys at the dealership. good bunch of guys. the parts gut told me they have not sold a single unit bucause you have to give up so much room in your bag. that room is precious when your traveling.

txcwdancer, you like the "cloth & Wood"? I prefer something a little more substantial. Seneca 3, Partanavia, and done 3 hrs on a Nomad ( yep you gotta love the nomads!)

I see lots of nice stuff... but also nice prices... can't see me spending 4 or 5 hundred dollars for an intercom/audio system. I need a helmet to helmet comm system that's cheap.
