Hells Angels
I was forwarded this info from the ISP today. I have removed phone numbers are email addresses of the officers involved.
Be safe, Idaho I just learned of this today and wanted to pass it along to you for your use. In response to my message and request from several weeks ago regarding intelligence on OMG movements to both Sturgis and eventually to Milwaukee for the HD 105th, I received a call today from Philana Duprey-Riherd of AZDPS regarding the shooting of a Hell's Angel OMG member by an off-duty Seattle PD officer in Sturgis, SD on August 09. The officer was wearing "colors" identifying him as a member of the "Iron Pigs" law enforcement motorcycle group. The shooting took place in the Loud American Roadhouse bar at approximately 0100 hours on Saturday morning. I have since confirmed the information during a phone call with SD DCI Special Agent Dan Satterlee. Additional information: Grand Jury met today and heard testimony from both the Hell's Angels group and the Iron Pigs (Seattle PD) group. Dan advised me that during the law enforcement testimony, an "unmarked" passenger van occupied by Hell's Angels was driving by and suveilling the courthouse. He also advised me that for safety reasons, SD authorities had to escort the Iron Pig group to the Wyoming line where Wyoming authorities took over. Dan advised that Hell's Angels are not happy that a police officer put one of their members in the hospital, and retaliation may be forthcoming. All law enforcement should be aware of this, especially Seattle PD officers and colors-wearing law enforcement motorcycle groups such as the Iron Pigs, Blue Knights, Choirboys, etc. Idaho again, personal observation. I find it pretty amazing that the Hell's Angles would even consider starting a vendetta against the police. This could get messy.

I spoke to a local Iron Pig on the day it happened. Within 2 hours of the incident - every chapter of the Iron Pigs had been notified of the incident. I thought that was impressive and speaks highly of their brotherhood. If it happened the way I heard it - it was a case of self defense by the Iron Pig. But he will probably be in trouble on his job for carrying in a bar. We'll just have to wait and see how it plays out. There are no Hells Angels here. Banditos only. Just watch out for those guys and don't get caught in any crossfire.

I would think the mess would be in HA's house. The cops are more disciplined, better trained, and have the fire power with the element of surprise. I hope there's no more problems for anyone involved, but my money's on the Pigs

I believe that active law enforcement officers can carry concealed weapons in every state. Should be no problem having the handgun even if it was in a bar. Probably was a good thing.

This comes on the heels of a big story in Denver this week. The police here broke a guys teeth out on the pavement and claimed that the guy was punching and kicking them. In the police's own reports they claimed that, then in depositions they claimed the same thing.
click here Later (this week) video came out of the guy not resisting at all, laying on his belly with 3 officers on top of him, he's not resisting and an officer grabs his hair and lifts his head up off the ground and slams it back down into the pavement breaking his teeth out. Witness's said that it sounded like a baseball bat hitting the ball. Will see how this one in Denver plays out, but the cop may, or may not have had justification to shoot. If he didn't have justification, I can see the Angels wanting to do something about it. Not that they can win. |

It seems the officer should be in jail. He was out of his jurisdiction and should sit in jail until the trial just like I would if I shot someone in a bar fight.

I live in SD and I can tell you that it is going to get real interesting around here soon. This is the second such incident in as many years. There was a fatal shooting last year involving to members of the HA MC. Now this one. If they were intoxicated and carry firearms it automatically elevates the charges. Unfortunately these events are becoming all too common at the rally in recent years.

IF the HA wasn't armed... I would like to hear the justification a "trained" officer would have for rolling off a round or two in a bar with 400 to 500 people in it ! ?

Speculation can get out of hand. I will just wait for the official investigation to be made public.

What I heard was that the HA blocked the exits and this guy sucker punched the IP and then tried to choke him out. I'm betting is was pretty much point blank.
I was told by a local cop that it varies from state to state as to the legality of carrying in a bar. My friend said that in Cal., Border Patrol is considered a peace officer and can carry off duty but that in TX they are not allowed to carry off-duty. I don't think that's right. Police, sherrif, Border Patrol should be treated the same. IMHO |

I am not sure how permits go in other states but a friend who was an officer told me that here in SD our permits do NOT transfer to all other states automatically. He said in some states if he wants to carry he has to take his SD permit to local alw enforcement there and get it approved.

Utah permits have reciprocity in several states. Most of the people getting Utah permits are not even Utah residents. We can also carry where ever we want, unless its is a secure government area that is posted "no firearms" like an airport, federal building, or National Park (also houses of worship that are posted). So here anyway it's not illegal to carry in a bar, it is however illegal to be intoxicated and be in posession of a firearm. http://publicsafety.utah.gov/bci/concealedfirearms.html

Gonna give bikers in general, that includes all of us, another black eye. Messy to say the least.
